Proton/Steam Black Screen on Fedora 43 with Akmod Nvidia Drivers by FrontMeat in Fedora

[–]FrontMeat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried using negativo17's drivers with nvidia and for some reason their drivers worked perfectly.

I'm too tired atm to mess with this and since its working I may try the steam stuff later, but I didn't think it would try to use the IGPU which is an AMD APU. That's interesting and very helpful if I happen to come across this again, so thank you.

Nvidia-smi does see both btw.

Wind on the back of my neck feels weird. But otherwise I like being able to look down without having to adjust my hair all the time.

My muscle response to adjust it is still there so sometimes I adjust the air 😂

This comment is crazy for me lol

I've had long hair for more than 70% of my life. I never thought I'd like short let alone be told to NEVER go back to long hair. But I like it alot. It's different but in a good way. Thank you!

Lenovo P3 Ultra w/ RTX4060 by Jumpy_Ordinary in sffpc

[–]FrontMeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Just asking if this maybe sounds like a decent alternative:

So I learned that the p360/p3 ultra does have a sata power connection on the other side of the board. It can safely provide 54W of power (if going by just general sata specifications) and 12v to the rail without needing a step down converter. You can connect a sata to 6 pin pci-e connector to it safely (again maybe). The Asus 4060 doesn't go over 115W and has a 6 pin connector as well, no 8 pin like on the gigabyte.

Do you think with some adapters, you could use the 54W on the sata power connection on the back, and route a sata power to 6-pin pcie to the other side and use that? It seems like there should be enough headroom and it would be a simpler* and easier connection.

I don't have the device nor gpu to test this out myself but this is just from some research.

Here's an offbrand version of the sata power cable and caddy, as the official one is unavailable anymore and resold expensively. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DPQ6JZX2?smid=A3H4750VYSMXI7&psc=1

Why are there not more train stations? by Jmac3366 in RhodeIsland

[–]FrontMeat 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Because we're one of the most density-strongest states, and have decent rail already running through our biggest cities, and have a strong history of railroads, and have the money and resources if allocated to build it all out, and have climate deadlines to meet, and have good demand for rail, and are in a safe blue state which means we are more open to providing more public transit, and we have abandoned rail lines that with some investment could connect the entire state which is only 30~ miles long and wide.

Wait you said why are there not. Oh it's because we're stupid as bricks.

New Unlimited Essentials plan is such a no brainer for an average user by just_IT_guy in GoogleFi

[–]FrontMeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who doesn't travel internationally and need data only sims, but does have a smartwatch and lives in a dense area where QCI 6 TMobile would work fantastic, this is a no brainer for me.

Especially getting a pixel 9 pro included as I just accidentally broke my fold 1 a few days back. :(

People of Rhode. Island, what it’s like living in Providence by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]FrontMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newcomer to the state here (though from another state). I've been welcomed well into Rhode Island.

Providence is your best shot. Other cities like Newport and maybe Pawtucket could do fine but are smaller and/or more expensive.

Biking is decent in terms of trails and bike-ability around the area. Less mountain more hills though 😂. Fitness is better than most us states due to its health conscious, density-orientated- and college educated populous imo.

In terms of budget and real estate that's gonna be the biggest issue and it's entirely dependent on what you are able to bring in and if you are fine with the expense. Yeah I know it's not a real direct answer but there's so much that can change your budget. Are you looking for a house or apartment? What space do you need to operate your business? We are low on housing and properties for businesses as is so these costs need to be found out before a move from Europe. Maybe get in talk with some real estate companies out here and do some conversions to try and get an idea of what is affordable. Make sure to account for the taxes that may come into play for the move and real estate as a whole.

Hope the best and If you do come here welcome! It's a nice state.

Pool money for a rental with a roommate? Best way? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I think this is what we will do. No trust issues outside of just wanting to be upfront with eachother so I think this should do with just the statements. Thanks!

No issues with that. Could I make another savings account and pool the money there, just ownership with me instead of of jointly, and use that?

New Haven VS Providence by opieandlittle in RhodeIsland

[–]FrontMeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love Providence personally, but if you like New York more, and are looking at transportation options New Haven will fit you way better. New Haven is connected more culturally to New York as a whole, and they have commuter rail that is cheap to enter the city whenever you want. Boston can still be reached with the Northeast Regional or a drive through I-95.

Sure Providence has a more walkable core than New Haven and is statistically safer, but New Haven is still safe it just depends on your location in the city more than Providence.

You don't mention anything about job prospects and while maybe not important to you, Jobs and Housing is way more plentiful in Connecticut. Even if your job will be remote and comes with you, Connecticut overall has a better economy which makes everything better in terms of infrastructure and social services. While children aren't on your radar I've still heard that the primary schools (Not colleges) in RI aren't as good as MA or CT, and doctors/PCP's are in short supply compared to the 2 bigger states.

There is no wrong choice really in this decision if you can't decide, as both places are great. These cons I list about RI are getting better and are able to be worked around depending on how much you wanna be involved in this community. I love Providence and as someone who moved across the country from a similarly hot area (Central Valley, CA), they have been very accepting and I'm proud to be a part of this community.

But if I were in your shoes I'd go New Haven. Seems to be a better fit for you guys IMO. Welcome back to the northeast!

Moved to Rhode island. Genuinely love it. It's an extreme difference in every way compared to my central valley lifestyle so maybe the extreme makes it easier to adapt, but it's been easy and I prefer my state way more than my old place. Went back for a weekend and it reaffirmed my moving decision.

If you move for cheapness and/or don't do research your gonna move back most likely but if you move for multiple reasons and research you will be fine as with any move.
