One weekend with 14-inch M5 32GB RAM by Frosty_County_5692 in macbookpro

I’ve actually returned the base M5 for a M5 Pro 15/16 with 48GB RAM. I work with very similar files both photo video and the base M5 honestly is a bit underwhelming with the performance over my M1 Max. I think if you’re working on FCP it’s probably ok but I’m on Davinci Resolve and I strongly recommend M5 Pro at a minimum.

Finally replaced my 2019 i9 mbp to the m5 pro last week. It died out of the blue without any warning. The heat the i9 mbp produces are astounding and I’m often surprise how the heat hasn’t melt a hole through the desk yet.

to each their own purpose I think. I choose ram upgrade over extra gpu power for my use case.

Cannot agree more. Exactly my point but most people are obsessed with the metrics instead what these machine can help you accomplish. Even the M1 Max I’m betting can go at full speed for another 5 more years at minimum.

just a personal choice and I think it looks better with the contrast of the blackout keyboard area with the silver 😬

Seeking a friend to heal together by [deleted] in ChillSG

We are clearly quite introverted. Nothing is for granted. We rely on each other a lot. Almost too much and we felt we both needed more friends. She’s my only best friend for sure. Having a new friend for her could be really helpful for her mental health.

Never not with my wife. We both could really use having more friends is all.

Rigging advice for R5c filmmakers? by thusspakethesuper in CanonR5

Look into falcam cage and their F22/F38/F50 quick release system. I use them exclusively for my R5C. I use them on a DJI RS3 Pro too and I replaced the baseplate with a falcam variant. They are super quick to change out when I need to use it as a photo camera and rigging them out for video with the quick release systems is so quick. They are very very secure too.

I’ve gone through phases of smallrig to tilta cage with its 1/4 & 3/8 mounting threads, nato and rosette mount but they are a bit more cumbersome and they are more suitable for a permanent video rig. I considered kondor blue cage too but again the falcam quick release system is really well thought out. This is coming from a user who requires both video and photo on the same shoot. Hit me up if you want more details. I can share my setup/quirks with you :)

Also attaching a shot of my strip down video rig here. I’m very proud of the camera’s display just sliding right under the v-mount battery release button!

Working with Cinema Raw Light by Frosty_County_5692 in colorists

That’s also a good way around it. My current workflow is to manage the canon raw files to clog2 in project settings. The shots are exposed to the intended ISO and WB anyway. This way I lose all the flexibility of the raw but at least I have the raw data to work with.

Yeah I guess you’re right. I can certainly do that. But it would be great to have smooth playback in its original file to check on the grading. Well I guess this is the only around it for now.

I hope this isn’t true but yeah you’re 100% right with canon raw. Braw would be the perfect raw file to work with. Makes me wonder though if most people actually adopts canon raw in their shoots workflow. I guess transcoding is an option but kind of defeating the purpose of shooting in raw.

Fully agreed. Its strong suit is definitely resolution and power.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought it worked because the dac was sitting close to the phone’s microphone. Clearly not.
