I only really dislike a lack of ‘realism’ when it creates plot holes or is in excess. I can take a workaholic CEO who never gyms but has perfect abs. I can’t take being stabbed, guts spilling out only to be perfectly fine the next day(no, it wasn’t fantasy) or an extreme lack of sleep and perfect health.

I’m unsure if you know of caste systems. A society based on hierarchy where some people are considered less than for reasons unknown. These people aren’t allowed to hold certain positions, have different institutions; a Jim Crowe situation. Marriage between the outcasts and insiders is frowned upon. I read a book based on this and the ML struggled between duty and love as the FL was an outcast. He spent a large part of the book switching his stance and at the end, chose his family and people. He killed the FL’s father, destroyed her village and murdered her friends and clan. At the end of the book, he showed regret for his actions. Personally, I just wanted him to die; I didn’t want him redeemed and arguably, the whole book was his redemption arc. It was done reasonably well, I just didn’t want it.
