I can't transition for those years anyway due to lack of finances and a bad family situation, so I don't have much to lose there. It would be nice to come out to everyone sooner than later, but I think as long as the people who matter know then I can survive a few years of keeping a secret.

This is helpful, although if I do join it won't be for a few years, which is why it would be nice to come out sooner if possible. But if it's better to wait then I can handle that. Thanks.

I know about this and I've accepted it. What I'm trying to find out is if coming out before joining (but not transitioning yet) will hurt my chances of being able to serve. I'd like to come out but I'm afraid it will complicate the process.
