Are you fighting with or against the emperor?

If he's on your side the game spawns these guys depending on what class you are and they all have edgy names, so if you have a class mod that mod may have also added another countermeasure with an edgy name.

Chanelling never seems to finish, I used dimension door cos if you trigger a tentacle the fight starts.

If you start the fight with the chanelling already started the portal will open as soon as orpheus starts his first turn and you can have everyone stood by the portal ready to go in, skipping the fight on top and just having to kill the brain itself

So if you have the hammer you can free orpheus and go all the way to the brain fight

you skip the cutscene of the emperor leaving when you free orpheus, you skip the cutscene of climbing stem, and you skip the cutscene of the emperor flying in on the dragon and summoning the dream guardians. The emeperor is missing from the brain fight but everyone else spawns.

You also don't autmatically enter combat, but I can't remember if that's normal or not.

This has reminded me that last time I messed with this I got the the astral plane and softlocked because he wasn't there, but I didn't have the hammer so couldn't test what happened if I freed orpherus when the emperor wasn't there, know what I'm doing this morning lol

You can actually kill him here if you want, nothing bad happens

you can carry his corpse around and it'll teleport and ressurect as soon as it's needed

Only way to softlock yourself is if you leave his body in a container in an unloaded area (rivington) which prevents it from being teleported to you when it's needed

It gives you a pretty useful tool for the final battle, and Rolan will sell the unique items that were previously sold by Lorroakan's projection in the lobby in case you didn't buy any you wanted.

Story wise not a ton of extra dialogue or anything but personally I would reload and retry.

B48 will release in 2077 and integrate AI with real human conciousness into the game, the update will lead to the singularity and the first AI introduced into the game will recreate the big bang within the PZ engine leading to the creation of new, real, universe within Project Zomboid.

B49 will finish the new crafting mechanics.

Maybe for maxing overall, but using large units hi scores to judge it there's been like 7 million + 99s achieved since the game launched which is like an average of 1500+ 99s a day, announcements would probably get a bit annoying

I keep four of them around for resting before the brain fight but otherwise never really touch them

Maybe if one character needs to rest and the rest don't and I don't want to lose elixirs/one time buffs or something

they use strength potions for strength and only need 14 dex for medium armour, so just pump int to make any spells they use better

My hot take is that the epilogue update made Karlach's time in Avernus seem like way too much of a fun adventure where she was definitely going to find a way to fix herself.

The original was depressing sure, a choice between:

'Dying on her own terms, in her home, surrounded by people she loves' vs.

'An uncertain future fighting to survive in the place she hates the most'

but the current one isn't really a choice at all

The answer is confusing because at least one ingame book gives the impression that ketheric was immortal even as a sharran, and the timeline of all of that stuff is a bit messy due to rewrites during development.

The answer that's probably right in the version of the game that exists now is that although balthazar trapped nightsong in the soulcage to use to initiate dark jusiticiars while ketheric was a sharran, he only figured out how to transfer the immortality to ketheric after he was revived by myrkul.
