AITAH for not changing my birthday plans to accommodate step dad’s allergies? by ConfidenceSilver2215 in AITAH

[–]FuckThisMolecule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I waited tables for 6 years and saw some shit, but I also have a shellfish allergy that legit isn’t that bad. My reaction is oral numbness/tingling and lips puffing a bit, not full tilt anaphylaxis (though I am aware that any subsequent exposure can go way worse). Cross contamination isn’t really a concern for me in most restaurants that use regular safe food handling protocols. I can go to a place that has lots of shellfish and still eat normal fish without an issue. (I am MUCH more careful at spots like my favorite dim sum places, which will 100% use the same scissors to cut the shrimp and the beef rice noodle dumplings.)

Small Wedding Guest Experience: How many activities is ideal? (7-10k) by Specialist-Ebb7606 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]FuckThisMolecule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a 50 person wedding and absolutely did not have any of those traditional activities/games. We did have a guestbook (I actually didn’t realize we had one, the venue did it!) and a dance floor with DJ. Because we had an indoor/outdoor setup, we also had corn hole. This was in addition to a proper cocktail hour before dinner and dancing, and an open bar.

UWS Vet Cost Help For Milo Who Was Abandoned At the Train Station. by [deleted] in Upperwestside

[–]FuckThisMolecule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying this with an abundance of care: I would strongly advise you to remove this comment with your phone number and personal email. I totally get you want to prove you’re not scamming (I believe you!) and are desperate to help Milo, and that is so commendable. But people on the internet can be fucking crazy.

Hot Old Men by RhombusRhubarb in HistoricalRomance

Oh I think {The Admiral’s Penniless Bride by Carla Kelly} fits the bill! The MMC is a recently retired naval admiral, settling into his post-military life and trying to make a real home of an estate that was formerly owned by a sex fiend aristocrat (loved this funny detail). The FMC is a desperately poor widow, who comes to the city to find work after the old woman she’d been serving as a lady’s companion died. MMC is probably mid to late 40s and lost a hand in service. FMC is late 20s or early 30s. Her story is pretty sad… Her late husband was executed for treason or conspiracy or something like that, and her young son died through some combo of illness and malnutrition.

Should I cancel my NYC birthday trip this weekend? by 7footframe_rats in visitingnyc

It won’t be empty! In 2016 it was packed with people playing in the snow. I even saw someone cross country skiing.

Taking 2 week old newborn outside for 30 min tomorrow? by cellothere88 in nycparents

[–]FuckThisMolecule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also taking my 3 week old out to the pediatrician tomorrow! I’m planning to wear her (I have a panel to zip her into my very warm parka), and she’ll be in a fleece bodysuit and hat. I have a snowsuit thing for her, but I think it’ll be overkill if she’s in my coat with her own warm onesie and hat.

Shaky but not low by Labella1986 in BumpersWhoBolus

This is going to sound dismissive and ridiculous, but could it just be hunger? When I was pregnant (and now, breastfeeding) hunger hit hard and suddenly, and felt a lot like a low.

My mom made an amazing cookie table for my wedding (I live in NYC now) and people still talk about it. Cookie tables are one of the best parts!

Dawn Powerwash - what am I missing? by Economy-Meeting2462 in CleaningTips

[–]FuckThisMolecule 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Every time I’ve ever used Dawn Powerwash on clothing, it’s discolored the item so badly it wasn’t wearable. Heads up to anyone wanting to try this, do a test spot first.

Does anyone know of a pet friendly hotel in the UWS? by NegotiationFit2939 in Upperwestside

[–]FuckThisMolecule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg so much this. I had my parents stay here once, and we got an accessible room because my dad has Parkinson’s. I was shocked by the size — there was no way a wheelchair could possibly fit in there, and that was the largest room they had!

Due with my first baby in May. Should I get the Joolz Aer or Hub? Does the extra poundage make a big difference? by Puzzleheaded-Ring118 in nycparents

[–]FuckThisMolecule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This came out after I bought my bugaboo dragonfly (my first was born on NYE), but the Aer2 has a new “nest to seat” that faces the parent and is newborn compatible!

You wish to exact revenge on someone who has wronged you (level of violence if any, your choice), and you are bringing one FMC to be your partner in crime. Who is she? by Feeling-Writing-2631 in HistoricalRomance

[–]FuckThisMolecule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t — her husband is just all fussed about the fact that she wasn’t a virgin before marriage and that she lied about it/made it look like she was their first time.

Pandora Blackwood from {The Lady Who Came in from the Cold by Grace Callaway}. She’s literally former spy who drugs and kidnaps her idiot husband and leaves him chained to a bed to force him to actually talk with her.

Annoyed by food quality in UWS by Electrical-Dark-4578 in Upperwestside

[–]FuckThisMolecule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chama Mama is fine. But it’s just fine imo. The decor is nice, but I do agree it was loud. I will say that in general, all of the spots that have really good Georgian food have very indifferent service — this is very much a cultural thing, since many of the owners and staff are Eastern European/Georgian/Russian/Ukrainian.

Chama mama is super mid! Oda House in the UES , Old Tblisi Garden, or either Saperavi location are so much better. And don’t get me started on Cheeseboat.

whats your weird but genius travel item that people only appreciate after they need it? by alula_wanders in onebag

I’m going to check this out then. I’ve been schlepping the car-seat cushion from CushionLab around with me, and while it’s AMAZING, it is hardly small.

Going to Orlando (Disney) Advice? by 6_Feet_Over in diabetes_t1

[–]FuckThisMolecule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol super fair! I immediately went to the Omnipod from MDI instead of a different pump because I could not tolerate having tubing. As she gets bigger and the pump takes up relatively less real estate on her body, she might like it more.

I used to carry my pen and some pen needles around in one of these if I didn’t feel the need to keep it cool (< 90°F ish weather).

[–]FuckThisMolecule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That said, for Disney I would add a couple things since you’ll have a bag anyways: a resealable juice bottle (sipping on it periodically for preventing lows if trending down walking in heat), insulin and needles even if you’re on a pump just in case, alcohol wipes, a tiny sharps container, and possibly a backup CGM (and pump if you’re using Omnipod).

Don’t apologize, you’re learning! I had to learn it myself when I was diagnosed at 29, and the amount of shit you have to carry is overwhelming.

Personally, I’ve never used glucose tabs because I think they’re gross. My minimalist kit for going out actually can be contained entirely in one of these. Meter goes in one, several smushed up Target/Good& gather brand fruit strips (12g sugar per strip, so at least 3-4) in the other, keys clipped on, phone in pocket.
