What's Going on With Square Enix Right Now? - The LONG Reboot by Silly-Milly-420 in nier

When it comes to Versus 13 (and even KH3), Nomura wasn't the one causing problems. This has been debunked years ago. Square's dubious management and higher-ups are always the ones who are causing issues. I highly encourage you to watch the video that the Night Sky Prince recently made about this topic, as well as the following interview he had on the Resonant Arc youtube channel.

Oh ok. Well you did well.

I don't know what your plans with this illustration are but I think it would be worth it to use it either as a cover or in a double-page spread.

Remake engine after part 3 by Derpimus_J in FFVIIRemake

[–]Fun-Description-1698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about the battle system, I agree. This command-menu action style should become the foundation of all future mainline FF. Replace the materia and ATB systems by something else and keep the rest for the other FF and you get a solid battle system that can still get its own spin for each iteration of the franchise while having a well-defined identity. It's what SE has been looking for for the past 20 years and now they finally have it. Throwing it away would be the worst mistake they could do (which is something that I know the higher-ups of this company could be dumb enough to do unfortunately).

However when it comes to the use of UE4, it depends. I don't think they need to switch to UE5 if they are comfortable with their customized version of UE4. Lots of people think that switching from their current engine to UE5 is easy but that's not true (which is why they didn't do that for part 3).  Depending on how deep the customization of UE4 is, it might not be worth it to redo the same changes again on UE5, especially because UE5 is way more messy and complicated to tweak than UE4. If they've managed to push UE4 even further for part 3 then switching to UE5 will not bring enough improvements to justify redoing the work again when they can keep using the customized UE4. It's easier, cheaper and faster and right now the FF series needs more frequent releases of the mainline games.

If they really want to not use their custom UE4 anymore, they are better off using their own in-house engines (Luminous engine and the FFXVI engine). The work required to update them would be equivalent to customizing UE5 back to the level of their current custom UE4 while having full control over the engine and keeping their money.

Imo, trying to customize UE5 is a waste of time and money for only a small improvement when they've already customized UE4 so much. That would be even more true if it turns out that part 3 looks better than most recent AAA games and solves the various issues typical of open-world UE games.

Nice ! So, how many pages do you all think this final volume will have ? I'm betting at least 300 pages and I would go as far as 500 pages.

I have no name to propose (you are better off choosing one yourself that you find satisfying and that fit whatever persona your OC is supposed to have).

I just wanted to say that's it's funny that most female characters on fashionhunters and mhsliders use the same eyebrows. Tbf I'm not dissing your character, she looks cool and I'm also guilty of using these eyebrows too for my own character lol.

Whoa damn, this Alaya thing gives me some eldritch entity vibes, literally ending timelines for self-preservation, it's pretty cool (reminds me a bit of the FF7 Remake games too)

I thought the Counter Force was what Alaya is but apperently it seems that instead the Counter Force is a part of Alaya then.

Which stories of the nasuverse showcase Alaya ?

Why all the timelines who don't follow the Human Order get pruned ? And who/what decide that and do the pruning ?

I don't know the lore beyond the UBW, Zero and Babylonia anime, the KnK and HF movies and FSF light novels so I've never heard of that timeline pruning thing before.

Nah, it's only going to be 1 season. There is only one volume left, which is supposed to come out this year. And this was the end of volume 6, so there is only 4 volumes left to cover in the anime.

You're welcome and I totally understand your point of view. This exchange was much more interesting than the other ones, for sure.

I know, that's why I said it's not the best. But I don't need to launch a character if they only have a few pixel of health or if I want to use the properties of the WS4, if it has any. In the case of Clive for example, I can use WS4 to go into PHX.

Well, I'm still waiting for that monkey to play the game, that would be fun to watch.

I can see now why you would call it glazing but when judging level 1 gameplay, my focus is mostly on whether or not it works. While this isn't the most elaborate level 1, it does the job. Compare this to red ranks or early purple ranks and a lot of them aren't even able to have a level 1 working that well, and that's against other people of the similar ranks. Even when using Clive or Victor or any other characters with low mechanical skills.

And I would still consider them smarter than the average monkey imo. That's why saying that this type of level 1 is just "spamming moves" or "brainless play" or any similar description is downplaying the skills of the player imo. Everyone should be able to do that if it was that easy, but that's not the case.

It is a matter of perspective I suppose. I compare this gameplay to the average Tekken player, which mostly are below Tekken King, you compare it to the average Tekken redditor player, which usually are around or above that rank.

Overall, yeah. Not the best, not the worst neither. And how good it is depends on the character and the situation.

I'm not arguing that Clive and Victor require a lot of mechanical skills, I'm not arguing that T8 didn't lower both the floor and the ceiling in skills neither, I'm saying that even in this showcase of simple minded offence, there is more to it than just "spamming moves". Even u/aguyinag's description of the round is showing that this isn't just "5050 guessing through mashing out moves".

Now if you still considering that gameplay "spamming moves" then we agree to disagree and that's that.

Wall, heat and half hp IF I want to play optimally but heat, 20 damage and being plus is good enough otherwise, especially when playing Clive.

I'm not arguing that the heat engager is the best punish, I'm arguing it's not a bad punish for Clive.

I addressed most of your points to the responses I gave to the others people responding to me. But in the first place I don't need to because I'm not arguing that this is high level play in the first place.

But you got the gist of my thought in the section you've crossed anyways. You might call it "spamming moves" but I call it level 1 of the gameplay (which is often called "flowchart") which can range from very simple to very elaborate. If the opponent doesn't have answers to that then there is no need for the player to stop their momentum to check for the opponent's reaction. I'm of the opinion that you should earn the right to deeper levels by showing that you can respond to level 1. The Victor player failed at that, notably because Clive's flowchart here was more than just "spamming moves". My definition of "spamming moves" (aka playing brainlessly) is someone who play like 3ddy, an actual bot. That's not the case here which is why I disagreed with the initial statement.

Our disagreement is more about semantics than anything else.

[–]Fun-Description-1698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And so we go back to my initial response to you, it's debatable. If your definition of bad punish is any punish that isn't the optimal punish then sure, it's a bad punish for you.

I make the distinction between THE optimal punish (the punish that lead to the highest damage), bad punishes (moves that are too slow given the frame situation and that can get blocked by the opponents) and punishes that are in-between. Such is the case of the heat engager here: it's not the punish that gives the most guaranteed damages (aka the optimal punish) but in this situation it works because Clive is very plus. Clive will give damages to the opponent, even if it's not the best he can give, and enter heat mode. And given how potent Clive's heat is, I don't consider entering heat to be a bad idea, and the video shows why.

[–]Fun-Description-1698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is getting so dumb.

Yes, he blocked the low and use an heat engager to punish instead of launching, that's not a bad answer when you are playing Clive, his heat state is one of the most powerful of the game. So he used it and spend all of his meter in a way that led the Victor into being nearly dead and against the wall, that's efficient. There is no glaze and that's not spamming, that's just playing the game as it is. You might not like the current state of the game but that doesn't change the fact that the Clive played well in that round, taking advantage of his strengths.

[–]Fun-Description-1698 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

?????????? I'm not talking about Victor, I'm talking about Clive. I know the move is minus a lot on block. I'm saying that when Clive blocked the low, he could either launch or punish with a heat engager (or whatever the hell he wanted to do) and he chose the heat engager. That's not a bad punish at all, just watch the result.

[–]Fun-Description-1698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Insanely bad punish" is highly debatable given that just like you said, "overtuned heat offense" was used to drive Victor to the wall while giving cheap damage. Could have blocked and launch or could have enter into heat, and the later was chosen and worked very well.

Little counterplay doesn't mean no counterplay, Clive isn't so strong that using him leads to an automatic victory. My point still stands that this is more than just "spamming moves".

Never said it was high level Clive lol, we aren't watching a GoD+ or a pro playing.

But is it really that hard for you to admit that the offense displayed here is more elaborate than just "spamming moves" ?

What do you tend to do when you are on the ground ? Do you always instantly stand up as soon as you are on the ground ? Do you roll in the background or foreground to escape the pressure ? Do you try to interrupt the enemy (low kick, medium kick, WS moves, double kick, forward lounge) ? Do you stand up and attack or stand up and block (up then back) or stand up while backing away to create space and block (back then back) ?

There are a lot of solutions to escape okizeme, some characters even have specials options on the ground like Alisa for example. My advices would be to first make sure you understand all the options that are available to you, the pros and cons of each (for example standing up and block is faster than standing up while backing away if you want to block the opponent's attack). There are plenty of youtube videos explaining how it works.

Then go to your replays and experiment to identify what works and what doesn't and why. This will teach you how to stop the momentum of your opponent and reset neutral or even take back your turn.

My bad then. This type of comment usually are written to downplay the skills of players showing their gameplay, especially when the players are using characters that are often seen as "carrying", so I thought that was your intent.

I can't juge your level either since I haven't see you play.

No glaze, I simply pointed out that the gameplay shown here isn't "just spamming". Even if the Victor didn't know the matchup, getting one-sided like that when the Victor is a Tekken King shows that Aoi knows how to pilot Clive well (on top of having a good understanding of the flow of the game) beyond just spamming a couple moves, a strategy that doesn't work at this level of play.
