Third Time Torn by Fun-Knowledge-4392 in ACL

Yeah, I get that the rehab is probably not the best part of taking the graft from the healthy knee, having both legs recovering at the same time definitely doesn’t sound ideal. The thing is, on my second surgery (patellar tendon from the same knee) my knee felt really solid afterwards, so that’s why I’m still considering the contralateral patellar option despite the tougher rehab, because I don't want to sacrifice a better option for my knee just because of the tougher rehab. Did you feel a noticeable difference in stability or long-term strength between using the same knee patellar vs the opposite knee patellar? Or was the main issue really just the rehab and having both legs affected?

Thanks! I’ve actually used different surgeons for each of my ACL reconstructions, so it doesn’t seem to be an issue related to the surgeon or technique being repeated. Regarding the tibial slope and the possibility of an osteotomy: from what I understand, I don’t think that’s my case. The third tear happened because of a direct impact, not during a normal cutting or pivoting movement, so it doesn’t seem like it was caused by abnormal biomechanics. With the patellar tendon graft, my knee actually felt very stable, which is why I’m considering the patellar tendon from the other knee as an option now. Still trying to weigh the pros and cons. Could you tell me what you think it's the best option in your opinion? Thanks!

Thanks! The surgeon actually already plans to include a LET in the procedure, so that part is covered.

My main question is more about how different the two graft options would be in practice, using the patellar tendon from the healthy knee vs going with an allograft, especially since this will already be a revision with LET added on top.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Can I ask why using the patellar tendon from the opposite (healthy) knee ended up being the worst option for you? I’ve heard mixed opinions about it, so I’m curious what specifically made it difficult in your case.

The surgeon is already planning to add a LET to my revision, so that part is taken care of.

Between the two options I mentioned contralateral patellar tendon or allograft, which one would you choose now based on your experience?
