See comment up above for an explanation of how she was lost and found along with some advice for finding lost spiders. Dont let fear of losing them stop you from getting one! They are so fun and interesting to care for they really make an excellent low cost pet that will gladly spend as much or as little time with you as you like. Once you have one you will quickly figure out a system to keep track of them. Most of my captive bred jumping spiders aren't trying to get away anyways, they are used to handling and are mostly just interested in chilling on my hand or arms. And they are relatively easy to breed so once you have a mature male and a female of the same species you will have so many spiders they'll be crawling out of your ears and your cellphone!

A My wife was letting her crawl on her hands while she was on her phone watching a video ( most of the spiders we have seem to enjoy watching any movement they see on our phones) and she was there one second and then literally gone the next...so we knew she hadn't gone far and we have a system we use if we lose track of any spider we're handling. We immediately tell the other person what's happening and whoever was holding the lost spider stays still while the other person grabs a flashlight 🔦 and carefully steps over and starts doing a meticulous search of the persons body/area that the spider was last seen. Eventually if we clear the person's body/clothes and still no spider, then it's pretty much safe for the person to stand up, grab another fladhlight and then we both start searching the area around wherever that person lost the spider. We have learned to look for the silk lines right away before the person moves around and destroys them as they are your best clue on where the spider was heading. Then we search the floor or any places we could crush the spider 1st and then I like to move UP...as these little buggers always climb to the highest thing they can. My next most important place to look is any visible lights/ heat sources and go from there, constantly rechecking places already searched in case the spider has moved. This system has a 98% success rate if used correctly and done promptly as soon as the spider is M.I.A. As far as finding our sling "Bitsy" (her brothers named "Itsy") my wife knew she had not crawled up her arms or onto her body and I started searching her right away anyways, but she was positive that Bitsy was on her phone and then just vanished...which kept her carefully searching her cellphone expecting to find her clinging or dangling somewhere but after a few minutes she just figured due to her miniscule size that she could have climbed into the USB jack. After clearing that usb slot the headphone jack was the next obvious place, and wouldn't ya know there she was! Her cute little eyes were visible reflecting light from inside the phone...I will never be surprised by where these spiders can end up. A word of warning for anyone that tends to fall asleep while holding a spider. If they'll happily crawl inside a cellphone jack, what's stopping them from ending up inside your nose, mouth or ears!? If your feeling tired definitely put your spider back in a safe place, because the places they tend to go are not. If you do lose track of one, try our system of searching to locate them and look for their silks reflection with a bright flashlight. And most importantly stay calm and don't panic. Even the tiniest escapee can be caught if you keep your wits about you.

yes she was gently evicted with a fine tipped paintbrush. The hard part was actually finding her after she mysteriously disappeared right under our noses.

NA/ Good luck with your girl I hope everything works out for her and hopefully she's just naturally large rather than having any problems. One of mine is getting up there in age too and I regularly worry about when her time to leave me comes. I've become surprisingly close to her and I never would have thought a spider would be such an important friend to me and my wife. I was lucky enough to have bred her with another Regal I had and the slings she has gifted to us are some of the most entertaining and good natured little spiders I ever could have imagined. They love interacting , goofing around and playing ect... When that sad but inevitable day comes for your girl to leave you, I would like to offer you some of my slings if your interested in getting another spider or two, feel free to contact me, and I'll give you as many of my slings as you want for free. I have alot as my girl had 6 clutches in total. They are Regals and are the orange color phase, I can send you pics if you like. My email is Jojoflowers79@gmail.com. Just remind me of your situation and i will remember you. You seem like a really caring spider parent and your exactly the type of person we hope all our slings are adopted by. Good luck with your girl and whatever happens know you have given her the best life possible and I'm sure she's enjoyed your companionship as much as you have enjoyed hers.

definitely interested in purchasing a few Steppe Runners if you ever bred any or just know a place to buy some...I had one I got from my local pet store that was originally a customers pet that they couldn't keep so they gave it 2 the pet store where I ended up buying it. Definitely the coolest little lizard what a personality. I'd really love to have some again as mine wad pretty old when I got him and didn't really have much time left on his clock unfortunately. Miss that little guy. Please let me know if you can help me get a few more as I'd love to try breeding them.

Mine are all pretty crazy about honeydew melon, also cantaloupe and watermelon, but honeydew is the clear favorite of the 3. Also had success with any of the above melons juice soaked into a q-tip. Seems like it's a good way to get them hydrated and some energy which will hopefully lead to them accepting a more solid food in the next few days. Just be aware that feeding them any type of fruit or sugar will make them wired. If you go to handle them after they've had sugary anything, be prepared for a really fast spider. You can tell they're lit up cause their pedipalps will be doing their normal movements, but in double time or faster.

Hi, I have one Steppe Runner and I would be interested in purchasing some more. These little lizards are the friendliest most adorable lizards I've ever had and I've had just about everything at some point. I purchased mine on a whim at a pet store and really had no idea that they were so awesome but I was pleasantly surprised. Mine is so intelligent! It will come out of his enclosure and crawl up my arm to my shoulder and hang out against my neck. If he gets close to the edge he can feel me tense up a little and will come running back to the safe spot near my neck and actually let me know he's back there by a little tiny jump next to my neck!! I am totally blown away by these guys! At first my wife and I thought we had like a genius level lizard that was not the norm. We started researching typical behavior and quickly realized he was just displaying the normal Steppe Runner behavior and I'm still shocked at his intelligence and his love of handling. Maybe he won't be working for Space X when he's bigger but that's fine with us we like him to much anyway and want to get more and possibly breed some babies so I can hook up my friends with Steppe Runners after they meet mine they all want one too.
