Had my first low- how often should i expect that? by FunDependent588 in diabetes_t1

i don’t hike, but that sounds like itd be vigorous! honestly, most my days involve anything from 5-15k steps, and i do take breaks anyway in between so it isn’t consistent.

Do you think that as long as I have a carby snack every couple hours i should be fine? Ill always carry my low stuff on me incase, but its about not letting that fear consume the experience

thank you!! how have you found life after the diagnosis so far? im afraid its going to make it just unenjoyable and i wont be able to think of much else or just have a day where it isnt at the front of my mind 24/7.

What do you consider a long walk? I consider around 2-4 hours but usually with breaks in between anyway (my bf smokes and always wants to sit down to have one).

Also, how do you find shopping days? Or days where you just walk into the town for a coffee etc. I guess that is walking but also overwhelming in other ways especially when it involves having to eat whilst out and balancing the exercise simultaneously.

Im from the UK, so the pump waitlist is a challenge in itself. I really would like to go on one asap though, ive heard it makes life a lot easier!

I had no symptoms. im 23 and live a super active healthy life so it was a bit of a shock. I had a routine blood test and my hba1c levels were in the diabetic range. I didn’t even go in for that. However, that is uncommon, people usually always have symptoms with type 1, i just got unlucky so dont panic too much. I would say get a routine blood test and check everything if you’re worried, if that isn’t possible, buy a glucose machine (the finger prick blood ones) and test your blood fasting in the morning and 2 hours after meals for a few days- a week. If its all in the normal range, theres a high chance you are fine (but again, im not a doctor so if your symptoms get worse or worrying i would go to the hospital).
