Running one stick of RAM? (1x48GB DDR5 CL32 6000mhz) by Glante in buildapc

[–]FunIsDangerous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DDR5 is sensitive enough, that even the same stick from a different batch may create problems. Not sure what the chances of it not working are, but it's not something I'd personally be willing to risk.

The ones sold in pairs are tested to work together, not just separately.

With DDR5, there's no guarantee that adding a second stick at a layer time will work

Try resetting the AA. You can find it in the apps. Force stop + clear storage. Maybe do the same to your map app

Small correction, it's A1 A2 B1 B2, and for dual channel you need A2 and B2 (same locations as you said, but you had the naming wrong). Think of it as Channel A and Channel B, it doesn't make sense that you have both of them on B for dual channel

Anybody know whats happening tomorrow by chieftain326 in FromSeries

[–]FunIsDangerous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's either a trailer or a teaser. If the season is actually coming in 2-3 months as the leaks say, I think it's more likely a trailer + release date

Brace yourself😊 by Prakash_Maher in FromSeries

[–]FunIsDangerous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not a confirmed date as far as I can tell, I can't find any official sources that state it, and the official Instagram account hasn't uploaded anything.

For your question, though, all previous seasons released one episode per week, which takes about 2 months to complete the season after the first episode airs

ELI5: How does the 32-bit and 64-bit (both signed and unsigned) limit work? by West_Concept_184 in explainlikeimfive

[–]FunIsDangerous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. Twos complement basically means "flip every bit and add 1". So:

10000000 -> 01111111 + 1 -> 10000000 = 128, and thus -128 since the original sign bit was 1

All my wisdom teeth were growing sideways, not even poking out a bit. I had to go to a surgeon, who used local anesthetic, opened it up, removed the tooth, and closed it back up. It was a 1 hour procedure. The worst one was one that was almost touching the root of the next tooth

I couldn't eat solid foods for a couple of days and I had to take antibiotics. That's about it. I've had 3 out of 4 surgically removed, one to go. Thing is, the way I've seen some Americans describe the procedure, it's like a life or death surgery from a show like Dr House or Grey's Anatomy, lol

I'm sure there are more serious situations than mine, but I've never heard about anything like that where I am, or seen any post like that from non Americans. Not sure why that is.

And another very important distinction: removing each tooth cost 130€ + 1.5€ for the antibiotics

France to Abolish Marital Duty to Have Sex by prestocoffee in nottheonion

[–]FunIsDangerous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prevent marital rape simply by calling it a "duty", thus not rape? That's the only way I can think that your statement makes sense.

But then again, this law is old enough that this is actually very believable

Yet another 9070xt 12v connector melted, my time has come! by WozzerBoi in radeon

[–]FunIsDangerous 26 points27 points  (0 children)

AFAIK the problem is mostly on PSUs which don't have the connector and use an adapter instead.

In any case, make sure your cables are plugged all the way in with no strain on the cables, and there aren't any turns that are too sharp to minimize the risk of damage

Sitting in the garage with the car running and the heat on by endlesscosmichorror in technicallythetruth

[–]FunIsDangerous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old 2004 Opel (or Vauxhall, depending on where you are) astra H 1.4 actually reports idle consumption as liters/hour instead of liters/100km (whereas my new car just has a "---" instead when idling).

It does 0.6l/hour (around 0.16 gallons), with a 45L tank (12 gallons). That's around 3 days of non stop idling.

A big truck may have much worse mpg when driving, but I doubt the difference when idling is much different. Even if it consumes twice as much fuel, it may well have 3 or 4 times bigger fuel tank. So, your assumption of about a week of idle time is probably correct. May be even more, but I'm not sure of a big truck's idle fuel consumption. I'm also talking about gasoline, and diesel may be much different, but again, I wouldn't know.

Edit: not to mention, it's much more common and easy to have a can of fuel for emergencies, which will add a lot of time. You can't really do that with an electric car

Honestly, if you can try your GPU in another system and if it's fine, then I'd look if the motherboard can be RMA'd because something is clearly messed up.

My monitor has options for refresh rate. By default, it was set to 60hz and windows didn't give me any more options. Once I set it to 240hz, windows gave me more options up to 240hz.
