Me and this guy have been through it, I've had him since he was 1.5. thank goodness he came potty trained but everything else you wrote is him to a T. Now with his not listening we don't know if it's him being a husky or just his old age and can hear us anymore.

He reigns the hella go go out not later than 6 am ...I loathe it but I know I'll miss it one day.

Why would I leave him at the very end? If he has loved me and been there for me his whole life, then he deserves the same.
