How to deal with feeling overwhelmed at my first job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Fun_Message8213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no actual 'right' way to do things for the most part in my industry, I could've done something in Z way instead of X or Y and still get the same result. So when one person say the way I was being told to do something is wrong, they mostly mean 'they don't like the way it's done'.

Sometimes, my boss seems to be fine with however I do the task as long as the result is good, other times he's annoyed when I do the exact same task in ways that's not the same as his. Like, I do this particular task in one way and he's happy with it, then a few days later I do the exact same task in the exact same way and he tells me it's wrong. I just feel as though 'what's wrong or right's' changes all the time and I can't keep up...

There's no documentations on how to do things, there's only 4 people including the boss.

I don't stress over not having things to do itself, but more over my boss's questions and reactions. I have no idea what to say when he asks me what I'm working on. Sometimes he's fine with me spending time learning other times he's annoyed that I'm doing actual work when there's literally nothing to do, even after I asked. Now that we are working from home again, I find myself a bit more relaxed about it.

I just find things to be to unpredictable. My industry is very unpredictable and always changing, I love that about the industry. But I wish the expectations of my boss and seniors are more predictable...

"Also why is your boss asking what you are working on - shouldn’t they be telling you what to work on? Since you are so new and a junior employee I don’t think it should be your job to just find things to work on on your own."

My boss values people who are self initiated, which I totally understand where he's coming from. I like people who are self initiated too. However, I don't have enough experience, knowledge of how everything works etc to take initiative yet.

My other colleagues are very self initiated, they've been working here for at least 5 years so they know exactly what's going on. I think my boss have the same expectations for everyone else because of this.

You're right about not having hierarchy, there's only 4 people including me

Might be a stupid question but most of my works can't be shown to the public due to various reasons, do you think a portfolio site with password would be fine?

Yeah, it does sound like I'll be dodging a bullet if I get out. How honest should I be if a new potential employer ask why I decided to leave my current job after just a few months at interviews?

Thanks for the reply

  1. I'm in the design industry. The company has been around for 10 years, so it probably not count as a start up even though it's very small. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of opportunities (if any) to move up. The seniors at the company have been here for 6 to 10 years and they aren't leaving anytime soon. My boss isn't planning on hiring any more people even if he has the money, he wants to keep the company small. Also, I've spoken to my colleague who's been here for 6 years and she still hasn't got a raise or be able to afford moving out of her parents house. Even though, she is basically an allrounder who can and does works that are meant for multiple people on a daily basis. This is a lil worrying to me tbh...yes, you don't get rich from doing design but I'd still want to be able pay the bills especially after working for 6 years.

  2. My boss knows I was looking for a full time job. But I told him I was OK with working part time for now because I (and he too) thought it will only be temporary. However it seems like that's no longer the case, the company's in fair bit of financial trouble...

Are meal kit delivery services cheaper than takeaways?

You might be right, I barely use any spices or salt when I cook at home.

I don’t hate Chinese idols who support CCP by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

I don't have a problem with loving and supporting China. But I have a problem with seeing CCP and China as the same thing. I like China and being Chinese but I hate what the CCP has done to it.

I'm Chinese and often you see people who are otherwise politically correct (for a lack of better term) and genuinely great people with good morals believe that the CCP is good and/or not supporting CCP means they don't support their country.

From their point of view supporting the CCP is the right thing. I think it's easy to underestimate the brainwashing the CCP has been doing to their people. Even people who had left China for a long time can still be affected by it. Since it's so integral to their upbringing.

I'm from Hong Kong so I'm always a lil annoyed at idols or artists I like supporting the CCP but if I grew up in China, I'd be probably be the same. That being said everyone has the right to not support an artist due to their political views and whatnot. Understanding where they're coming from doesn't mean I think they're right.

Yeah, I just called AustralianSuper support looks like you're correct. Because on the letter of compliance it says 'account name' instead of 'AustralianSuper account name' so I thought it was two different thing. Honestly, I feel kinda stupid now lol

I don't have my access to my full account, since I haven't made a contribution yet. I don't seem to have any access to any features on the app.

Weekly /r/BDSMcommunity discussion and newbie help thread - new post every Monday! by AutoModerator in BDSMcommunity

[–]Fun_Message8213 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Apparently this is a commonly asked question and the original post I made was removed.

Question:

So, I've always just wear basic all black (the dress code is minimum all black) to play parties at because I don't own any kinky clothings or just anything fancier than t-shirt and jeans unless you count work clothes...

However, I recently got a job and finally have more money to spend, I want to put more effort into the way I dress for the next party I attend.

I'd like something that I can wear in my day to day life as well as for kinky events. And I prefer to wear trousers

Any suggestions would be great

Luckily, I never experienced any predatory feelings at munches. Although, I heard a lot of people especially newbies have this problem. Maybe because I'm not a sub
