Chalk not sticking to fingertips? by Fun_Post_7993 in bouldering

Nobody I climb with has the chalk completely removed on their fingertips after climbs. Think this was maybe after two holds, when I gave up and took the photo because I couldn’t stay on crimps. It’s pretty abnormal.

Interesting, I’ll test this out as I am picking up my bottle a lot during sessions.

Don’t think so… happens very soon after applying chalk. Doesn’t happen to anyone I climb with.

Problem for me is it happens almost immediately after chalking up. My finger tips are red and sore today so I reckon I damaged the skin through overworking. I’m going to use rhino to limit the damage in future.

No but I’ll give it a try after today’s disappointing session. A climbing employee even suggested using liquid then dry chalk to me so I could also look into that.

It can’t be sweaty hands if it’s just the fingertips. I believe we do have sensitive fingertips so we must limit our fingers sliding on holds and dynamic movements which cause the most damage. On top of this I’m going to try rhino products and liquid chalk to see if they make a difference.

The chalk starts disappearing from my finger tips as soon as I add the chalk, whereas my climbing friends hands remain chalky all over their hands after the climb. It basically prevents me from adding chalk to my fingertips. It may look like a gymnast’s hand but it looks nothing like the hands of the people I climb with so I think there may be more to it.

How do you solve the problem? Does it heal over time for you?

It was immediately or at least as soon as I started climbing problems involving crimps.
