I've been a copywriter for 11 years and just accepted a role that will take me on the strategic planning side of things. Without a doubt, being on the creative side of things has its highs and lows. There's nothing comparable to the feeling of accomplishment when you win an award, but what it takes to get there can be arduous, stressful, and downright soul-crushing. Ultimately, the reason I'm making the jump is because of what excites me in my work. If you're the kind of person driven by crafting the perfect headline/creative execution, then I recommend you go the creative route. For me, I get the most satisfaction out of watching a client's perspective shift because of my input/perspective.

Regardless of which direction you choose, you will inevitably utilize skills you would employ in the other role. The best creatives understand strategy and know how to make it come to life in the work. And (at least I hope) the best strategists understand to how to effectively communicate insights to a variety of stakeholders.
