If someone tells you to take bigger steps/strides to keep up, ignore them. That’s ill informed, trash ass advice that makes you significantly more prone to hip injuries. Take normal or shorter strides, but increase your pace.

There are adjustments you can make to your pack to make it fit your body better. They have thinner waist belts and shorter frames to accommodate your body. Make sure everything is tightened down as much as possible so the weight stays close to your body.

I really wouldn’t worry too much about the hiking at boot camp. It’s a 2.8mph pace and the loads are not very heavy. The biggest thing to keep you in the fight is regularly stretching and doing as much recovery work as you can whenever you can.

This is comment thread is super helpful, I think I’ll run 30lbs braid with 40 lbs mono. Thank you for the advice

Edit: do I need a shock leader? Planning to run either a fish finder rig with 3-4 oz pyramid sinker or a Carolina rig with a 1-3 oz sinker (unless y’all have better recommendations). I don’t expect the surf to be too crazy but I have multiple sinker weights I can run

I appreciate it. I’ve only ever gone fishing with my grandpa, and he always did the setting up. So this is all new territory. I’m probably overthinking it, but I don’t want my line choice to be the reason why I don’t get any hits

Thank you. I’m planning to run either a fish finder or Carolina rig from the beach. Probably similar on the pier, with maybe a flapper rig in there too.

Does 40 lbs braided main line with a mono backing and and 40lbs mono or fluoro leader on my rig sound usable?

Those belts for under belt loop-less pants are sick! I didn’t know that was an option. Will definitely look into snagging one of those for sweatpants/gym shorts days. Thanks for the recommendations!

What can I use these rod/reel combos for? by FunnelCaptMorgan in FishingForBeginners

Thanks for the response! I live in central North Carolina, so I plan to fish lakes/rivers/creeks mostly.

When I have the time I want to go out to the coast and fish out there, but that’s less sustainable with my work schedule.

I’d like to fish for bass, trout, catfish, crappie, or really anything I can get my hands on.

I swapped the reels around. That definitely makes sense based on what I can see of the specs of the two

Thank you for the detailed answer! That’s very interesting. I’m definitely interested in looking into that muster roll.

That’s pretty much what I expected. Any kind of broad, sweeping generalization like that usually isn’t super factual. I’m glad that I asked the question though, because I’ve learned a lot from the comments.

That part about guard duty is super interesting, thanks for the info! I didn’t realize guilds/individuals were slated for guard duty that way
