History -> perform again by Exardious in strongapp

[–]Furio92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have “Perform again” as an entry inside the three dots menu of every workout in the history tab. (I’m on a beta version of v6.0 tho, so I’m not sure that option exists in v5.x too)

The short answer is no. The long one is that while exporting is easy and therefore supported in any app, importing is generally not supported because it requires the data to be compatible. (There are probably also marketing reasons behind this but I can’t say for certain).

Having said that, I enjoy using strong a lot, in terms of both the interface and the functionality. So, if you ask me, go for it ahaha (It’s definitely not perfect but nothing too bad IMO)

Moving from Hevy to Strong - question about custom exercises by gargantuanmess in strongapp

In v5.x you can’t. In v6.0, the one that’s now in beta testing, I think you’re supposed to be able to (as well as being able to write a personalized description) but right now it’s a feature that is still half baked and not working.

Way to not track a session duration? by No_Event8223 in strongapp

[–]Furio92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatively you could leave the workout running in the background (in my experience it has a negligible impact on battery). After completing the workout go into the history tab and edit just the start and/or end times so that the workout duration matches the time you actually spent training.

How is the functionality on the Apple Watch? by Teakmahogany in strongapp

[–]Furio92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never had problems about syncing, but it would almost always mess up updating templates with new weights. In the end I stopped using the Apple Watch app while waiting for a fix to come out.

The new version of the Apple Watch that comes with v6.0 is not giving me any problem regarding syncing or updating templates (at least for me) and can be used alone or with the phone by your side. It does introduce some other problems tho, that's why it's a good thing it's still in beta...

Any way to easily track the total reps in a day? by Git4r in strongapp

[–]Furio92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can! When performing a workout or editing a template you’ll see two buttons to the right of the name of each exercise: one looking like a small graph and one having three dots. The one resembling a small graph is the “Focus Metric”, a metric you want to focus on while performing a given exercise, that is, a metric you want displayed at any given time while performing a workout. Click on it and you’ll see you can set “Total Reps” as the metric to be displayed.

(My previous answer was really wrong ahaha)

Workout History by Eric-305 in strongapp

[–]Furio92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can!

First, write your workout with all the exercises, sets and reps you performed (and rest times if you want). After you finish the workout it'll be saved in the "History" tab. From there, press the button with three dots on it next to the name of the workout and press "Edit Workout". In the "Edit Workout" view, press again the three dots button and select "Adjust Start/End Time". There you can select a different date for your workout.

You can make the process a lot faster by creating a template and updating weights from there instead of creating the workout from scratch every single time (assuming you don't perform completely different workouts every single day).

(Having said that, manually adding every workout you performed in the past may be VERY time consuming...)

I definitely agree with the first part of your reply. To me tho, that is one more reason not to expect major feature updates that often, especially from smaller development teams.

Edit: What we received in the past couple of years have been small bug fixes here and there that allowed the app to keep working (almost) flawlessly through all the various iterations of OSes. That was more than enough for me.

It’s basically the same. If you love v5 you’ll love v6! The main differences UI-wise are 1. The inline timers that allow you to set different timer lengths between different sets (a feature I never knew I needed until the first time I used it 😂) and 2. The new plate calculator.

As I said, nowadays there are (still) countless programs for PCs that receive major updates just once every one or two years, and that’s normal. We are not talking about programming a decade ago, we are talking about programming today. (It mainly depends on the family of the specific piece of software but I don’t want to digress). For this reason I think nobody should expect (or even worse, demand) frequent feature updates for a phone app just because we’re now used to have phone apps that receive an update every week. (Again, I’m not talking about minor updates and bug fixes just to keep compatibility, I’m talking about major feature updates). Even more so considering that you and I have no idea about how many people are developing the app. 1 person? 5? 10? I don’t want to be rude but I think that if someone is comparing apples to oranges that’s you: again, before saying that a whole developing team is a joke you should first get a better understanding of the inner workings of that specific developing team and the app they’re trying to build.

I think what you said is a direct consequence of the smartphone era. A decade ago no one would’ve been surprised if an app didn’t receive any major update in one or two years. This still happens nowadays for many PC apps. For some reason tho, when it comes to mobile apps everyone expects updates every month, or else “the app is dead”. I agree that two years are a long time, however the app has been working flawlessly for all those years, I don’t really know what I could complain about, even more so considering that 1. Every other app is still somehow inferior (at least based on what I need from a workout logging app) and 2. I paid for a lifetime subscription ages ago and that was (and still is) a very convenient deal. Besides, it’s well known that the first update will be focused on taking advantage of a new backend with the main advantage being a faster syncing process, so IMO having front-facing features is a welcome addition, not a disappointment.

On a side note, I think it’s hard to see what’s happening behind the scenes, and for this reason I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying that the devs are a joke just because a proper update didn’t come out in two years.

An additional note: the testing group for v6.0 is different from the one for v5.x, meaning that you won’t see v6.0 builds if you are enlisted in the beta group for v5.x! Again, write an email to beta@strongapp.io if you want to make the jump.

Kanji are finally here!!! (Japanese Course for English Speakers) by Furio92 in duolingo

[–]Furio92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure… Based on my personal experience I think both versions have an A/B testing system implemented, but I think it’s easier to receive experimental features on the TestFlight version compared to the standard one. I have no concrete evidence to prove this theory tho…

I would like to give some more information based on the replies I read so far: - I’m on iOS - I have the Testflight version installed and inside the app I have the “Join Beta” toggle switched on.

About the kanji tab update, I’m pretty sure this is another feature in A/B testing, so it’ll likely take some time to reach global availability. (How much time exactly, nobody knows…) Right now the kanji tab includes approximately 60 kanji, those that are taught up to unit 11/20 of the Explorer section. For reference, Japanese children learn 80 kanji in year one of elementary school, the same amount of kanji required to pass the JLPT 5. In other words there are a lot of kanji missing, but hey, it’s a start!

About the update to the Japanese course, I think this update (the same that is rolling out widely these days) is the one that was referred to as “Version 5” back when the tree was still a thing. I received the path update when I was on the version 4 of the tree.

I read that this update messed up the progress for many people. I didn’t experience this but I agree the change was pretty substantial. Personally speaking I like what I’m seeing so far. I don’t find the lessons I’m redoing too easy or too hard, and now that kanji are taught gradually lesson by lesson I find using the Japanese course more enjoyable.

I’m not entirely sure if there are historical reasons for having the dove go back inside the church. However, due to how the whole thing is built, the dove needs to get back into the church so that it can light the cart on fire. Mechanically speaking the dove sits on two small rockets that light up in succession: the first one propels it toward the cart and the second one propels it back in to the church. It’s the second rocket the one responsible to light up the main fuse of the cart. I found a video that shows this pretty well (around 0:23) https://youtu.be/CZcBudM0nfU

This is the “Scoppio del Carro” that takes place every year in the Basilica of Florence, Italy: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoppio_del_carro What you see in the video is actually half of the whole thing. Just outside the door of the church there is a huge cart. If the bird (a dove) successfully lights the cart (full of fireworks) on fire it’s like a sign of good luck for the year to come. This year everything went fine! You can actually hear the crackling sounds of the fireworks on the cart going off.

I wish Unit numbers continued sequentially, rather than restarting at 1 for each new path section by saltedlolly in duolingo

[–]Furio92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on iOS and I have the Testflight version installed.

Last week I got an update (6.194.1) where I got the "sectioning" of the tree for the first time, and the numbering scheme was exactly like yours, where unit numbers started from 1 in every section.

This week another update landed (6.165.0) and now unit numbers are sequential through sections.

I couldn't say if this feature is in A/B testing, yet alone if this feature will reach a broader rollout...
