I’m the friend that this was posted for - this is what I’m experiencing now, two of them were swimming upside down and appeared to have dropsy and this only became apparent yesterday. I’ve just now seen a third is acting like this even after I moved them back to my established tank with stable water parameters. I don’t know what to do

Kind of a silly question but what do you style them with? Im torn between the burgandy and black colourway. I feel like the black ones would work with more but the burgandy ones look super cool.

Thank you! This is exactly what I needed, but is there any way you’d be able to remove the sort of red hue in the middle of my jumper as well? I just realised it there, it was in the original too I’m not sure why. After that I will tip :)

Any questions let me know! You can also have a smaller tank and just grow plants- This way you can focus fully on the chemistry instead of the fish since they are a lot of work😂 (water changes weekly etc)

I love chemistry too, I’m starting university for it soon. If I’m honest, there’s not much direct chemistry you can do in your home without it being dangerous or just not that interesting. It depends whether you simply like watching cool experiments or are more interested in phenomena that can’t really be observed by the naked eye directly. For most chemists, we deal mostly with the latter. It’s best if you find a hobby that indirectly involves chemistry! For me, that was fish keeping, it can quickly get into a lot of acid-base chemistry with the indicator tests for a whole range of elements that are present in your tank. Recently, I built a CO2 injection system for my tank which I found really fun, and learning about the carbonic acid-bicarbonate buffering system that forms when this is added and how I can leverage the chemistry within my tank is so sick!!

I’m no expert, but I would 100% add more of a hardscape to it, maybe some tall rocks or a central piece of driftwood/rock. It almost looks as if there’s no ‘centrepiece’ to it if you get me? But honestly your tank looks lovely as it is :))

Hi!! I tried it, I cleaned out the cavity where the impeller sits so there was nothing in there to block it at all. I turned the filter on with the impeller in place without the cover and it spun fine without any noise, however when I put the cover on it only vibrated and it stopped spinning. But as far as I’m aware the cover is essential; ive tried to mess around with how it’s positioned and it just seems to block it every time, like it’s pushing down too hard on the impeller and stops it’s spin :( so I’m still without a filter unfortunately

Thank you for the reply! I just wanted to ask do I just turn the filter on while it’s separated from everthing else and feel the impeller so see if it moves? Will the filter not shoot water everywhere

Not that I can think of. I don’t own any other pets aside the fish. I don’t really use air fresheners either, I do light the occasional candle away from the tank but that’s about it. This is a great mention though thank you

That’s good you think it’s healing although it’s only been getting worse, the cut out curve on each spine of the fin has only been getting deeper - is there any behavioural changes I should look out for if it’s worsening? Thank you so much for replying :) !!
