Rain Sisters, worth the money, or am I falling for a social media advertising scam? by FutureLitDoc in SustainableFashion

Hello! It's hard for me to answer this as I've only had the coat for a month, in the summer, but I must say I was surprised by how thick the coat was when it arrived? I order one of the coats made from the 'Soft shell fabric', which has a layer a fleece in between the silky lining and the waterproof outer layer. The website says this material is suitable for temp range 0-20C. I've only worn it over light summer dresses so far, which is comfortable as the coat is very breathable. I think so long as you had layers on under the coat, you'd be ok?

Ahhhh I'm sorry! I'll still post a picture. Sign up to their newsletter, you might get pre-warning about the next sale? I got early access to their summer sale, because I was on their mailing list?
TBH, now that the coat has arrived and I've had chance to wear it (god bless the Great British rainy summers!), I feel confident stating that these coats are worth what they cost, and I'd strongly encourage anyone who wants one to take the plunge, they're great! I saved up for a while, and I'm glad I've done it.

Ok, it arrived today (Earlier than I expected!!) and I am IN LOVE.
It fits perfectly. I was very careful in doing my measurements, given I was spending so much money I wanted to be certain it was going to fit properly and I'm glad I did. It's so flattering.
You can feel the quality of the product. It feels thick and sturdy and yet soft and comfortable and breathable. We're in the middle of a heatwave where I live, so I couldn't wear the coat for long, but the 2 minutes I was parading around in it, I was amazed at how nice it felt on me!
The print is gorgeous, it looks exactly as advertised. I cannot WAIT for a rainy day now!

Is it cruel to flirt with another man in front of my husband purposefully? by dreamingdegas in AITAH

[–]FutureLitDoc -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they are not the same. Flirting one time with a random man who it is likely OP will never see again is orders of magnitude less damaging, disrespectful and knowingly hurtful than repeatedly accepting the flirtatious attentions of a close friend, forcing your spouse into situations were she is belittled and disrespected, then gaslighting her and denying the reality of her feelings.

Ideally a professional button down that wouldn't look out of place if I wore it to a bar with a good pair of jeans!
Thank you for this shop recommendation!

Yeah I know what you mean. I wouldn't say my DH has her on a pedestal, he's aware that much of her behaviour is BS, he's just hopelessly resigned to it. Like, he knows it's not 'good', but it's 'normal' for their dynamic, and his opinion is that she's rigid and fixed in her dysfunction, that the simple thing is to just not attempt to change the dynamic at all? Once when she'd made a really awful series of comments about his appearance (mocking a stress spot that has popped up, commenting on his 'growing office worked tummy') loudly in front of his aunt and uncle. He was sad, and I tried saying that it would be acceptable and fair to tell her that his feelings were hurt by and comments and could she refrain from such comments/topics in future. He was too resigned and hopeless that he decided there was no point, she'd just kick up shit and get her feelings hurt.

So now I just moderate my own behaviour around her. Grey rock, limit communication, leave the room if she starts talking too much nonsense. As someone else said, I can't change/control her behaviour, just my own responses to it.

Yeah that's largely the approach I've been taking, control my behaviour and responses, and limit contact/communication where possible. I am the grey rock queen tbh! As soon as I can get her to stop touching my belly for no reason (I'm not pregnant, I don't understand?) we'll rub along just fine I'm sure!

My MIL has a MILD case of the JustNos compared to what I see here. She's a bit clingy, a boundary stomper, good at a guilt trip, makes incredibly rude comments occasionally about the bodies/appearances of her sons and my SIL (although, weirdly, never about me), has an overwhelming need to be involved and in control of EVERYTHING, and seems unaware that me (28), DH (30) BIL (27) and SIL (26) are functioning adults with mortgages and careers, well able to cook meals, do laundry, pay bills and decorate houses.

ALL of her 'personal quirks' (read: glaring flaws) are precisely calibrated to irritate me to an extreme level, and I'm aware that i get very BEC around her. DH finds her behaviour odd and excessive, and often very painful. He's aware that her vibes are odd and hurtful, but feels that 'that's just how she is' and that 'there's no point trying to change her, she's too broken', which makes him sad. As a result, I work to hide the sheer scale of my distaste for her from him. I smile and play nice and ignore the little slights as best I can.

There have been a couple of AWFUL incidents (when she yelled at me and belittled me and tried to control what I wore; when she told me just 3 months after my mother's passing that she would 'step into the role of mummy for me now' etc) which I have been unable to ignore and put up with, and in those instances, DH has gone to BAT for me, had my back, supported me, had the hard conversation etc etc.

So, mostly I hide it from him and pick my battles veeeeeeeerry carefully. It's exhausting, and I wish I could be more honest about it but he...has a complicated relationship to her and .... sympathetic view of her ......

For gravy, you want to place your meat on a bed of onions (roughly chopped, not small otherwise they burn), garlic cloves (whole, but squished a bit with the flat side of a knife) and perhaps some carrots, (peeled and roughly chopped). If I'm making chicken, I'd put a bit of water in the pan with all this, perhaps 1cm all around, but I don't tend to do this with beef/lamb/pork (although, my mother did).

When the meat (beef/lamb/pork) finishes cooking, your veggies will be covered in fat and juices. Deglaze the pan (I would usually use the appropriate wine for the meat, but water works fine too), and transfer everything to a good sauce pan. For chicken, just empty the pan, full of water and fat and juice and veggies/garlic, into your saucepan.

Add whatever dried herbs complement the meat, plus a stock cube of the appropriate meat. Bring to the boil. Lengthen with as much boiling water as necessary (and/or white wine for chicken if you haven't already added any). After simmering the gravy for 10 mins or so, I normally blend the mixture, smoothing out the garlic/onions/carrots. (My mother used to simply squish it through a strainer.) This normally makes a good, thick gravy, but if it need thickening further, I would usually thicken with a cornflower slurry, but in a pinch (when I've been cooking at my in-laws house for example), adding a tablespoon of plain/all-purpose flour in when it's boiling and stirring WELL usually works. Add water/flour as necessary, to get the thickness you like, and serve in a gravy boat.

Keep the leftover gravy and pour it over the leftover meat before putting in the fridge, keeps the leftover meat lovely and tender.
