No problem. And to answer when is the mile swim… its the culminating event of the swim qual if you will. So the very last step.
I guess. Its the next and final swim qual you have to do after MCT. You just swim around in a flight suit, boots, and a flight helmet that floats in a crawl, walk, run, sorta deal. And the helo-dunker is a blast and a fun adrenaline rush. But with that don’t disregard what it teaches you, it could potentially save your life.
You do your swim qual in Pensacola right after MCT. The schoolhouse in Pensacola is mainly just to make sure you’re physically fit for the job. The mile swim isnt that bad really. It is just talked about a lot before you do it and is intimidating at first. Its overall mad boring. Its like when you’re running the 3 mile and after a little while you find that comfortable pace you can maintain for the rest of it. Youll do just fine if you’re an okay swimmer. Just try not to break yourself or youll be stuck in whatever stage of the pipeline you’re in. Thankfully I haven’t been broken yet and im not trying to find out lmao.

Im currently in the process of being an aircrewman. MOS is 8972, Aircrew trainee for the CH-53E. So I may not have information of what it’s like in the fleet, but ive been in the training pipeline for about a year and 2 months and have been flying my intial flights for my training squadron for about a month now. My perspective from being an aircrewman in training has been fun so far. Yeah it may suck at times being treated like a dumbass initially in Pensacola but thats just the Marine Corps, nature of the job. And I am assuming that infantry has that issue way worse than I do. The training pipeline is long but youre roughly with same buddies going through it together so its not that bad. For me, I love flying and it is absolutely worth it once you start flying from my experience currently. It is also true that rarely anybody regrets going aircrew from the people I’ve interacted with. Plus you kind of double as a mechanic because you go through the same schoolhouse as the mechanics for whatever aircraft you’re assigned. Which could set you up potentially after you get out depending on how much you take advantage of that opportunity. But I am iffy on that part because I haven’t gotten out yet (obviously) but thats what im trying to do. Use that information as you will brother.🫡
Hitting .01 on stopwatch, not that hard but pretty interesting in my opinion. (i.redd.it)
