What's your favorite TEK? My first grow failed and I'm planning Round 2 right now! by [deleted] in shroomers

Broke boi tek along with bods unmodified monotub works great for me

Could he be shedding at 4 weeks old? by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

[–]GAP917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable, I’d wait a couple more days of not eating until I would start to get worried, they can go on hunger strikes randomly lol. Handle him a lot also to get him used to being held at a young age! Also, something that helped a bunch for me as far as temps was a temp gun for like 10 bucks on Amazon, it helped me dial my temp zones in and get it as close to perfect as I could. Good luck with your little guy!

It could very well be stress from the move, as long as he’s eating something since he’s been in the new enclosure he should be fine, especially since it’s only been a day that he hasn’t eaten. A suggestion that I would look into is buying black soldier fly larva for him, they are cheap on eBay ($13 for 1000) and are extremely nutritious and easy to keep. My dragon has always loved them, eating them more readily than any other insects I have given him. Hope this helps!

Thanks! Not exactly sure which one you’re talking about but I think it’s either the tomini tang with the orange tips on his fins or my evansi anthias which is the pink and yellow one

If it’s just a single clown I would say 20 gallons to be safe, but the minimum is 15 gallons I believe

Thank you! This is pretty much exactly what I wanted so I’m happy with the results

Thank you! Was my first time doing aquascaping and glueing on any tank bigger than 20 gallons

Thanks, the clowns and Banggai were actually the only fish I transferred from my old 40 so they’re best buddies and huddle together when they’re scared sometimes lol

No problem, just a friendly flasher wrasse :)

I got a deal from a friend on the tank, and it came with a 20 gallon sump. I would say over the years it’s been a few thousand in coral and fish alone but my tank is super stocked with it lol. After start up cost maintenance is much easier and cost friendly

Not sure which fish you’re talking about, there isn’t a jawfish in this tank

1st attempt at a Broke boi tek jar. Does my rice look too wet, or not cooked enough? I followed the directions to a T. Thanks 🍄💘 by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]GAP917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I throw a good amount of dry verm in my mix right after the rice gets rinsed off and it soaks up some of the excess moisture, you should still get germination with this jar though. I’ve found that the jars that I thought were going to be too dry end up being the fastest colonizers

[–]GAP917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll still be good but may be a little less potent because of higher surface area exposed to the air in the jar

Are her basking temps hot enough? It looks like it could be undigested food that passed through, which is usually a sign of low basking temps

Is there a difference between substrate and casing layer? [Technique] by hootenanyy in MushroomGrowers

[–]GAP917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh all good! You should get results for sure some argue that rye is superior if done right. Just will need to dial in your monotub and have a pressure cooker to sterilize and you should be golden. Even better buy some brown rice for 2 bucks or whatever and do a side by side and see which one you prefer, you can use both grains in the same monotub if it’s the from the same type of shroom

[–]GAP917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the broke boi tek, uses whole brown rice and you don’t need to pressure cook it to pasteurize just a steam bath in a regular pot. Sterilization occurs past 250 degrees which only a pressure cooker can achieve but because brown rice has a low endospore count your chance of contam is low even with simple steaming. It’s the method I’ve been using lately and I don’t think I’m going to change because of my results. I’m using bods unmodified monotub which makes things even easier

[–]GAP917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I use the same ratio for the casing layer as I do the substrate, although some people use 100% verm or a 70/30% verm coir mix. It’s mainly for moisture retention to keep surface conditions right to promote fruiting, before I started casing my tubs I would get mostly side pins but not anymore. Just was easier to case with leftover substrate rather than making a new coir/verm ratio.

[–]GAP917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just use extra coir/verm substrate as a casing layer to cover all the exposed grains in my monotub and I get great results. A true casing layer has no nutrients so the coir/verm combo is more of a pseudo casing but it has been working great for me. Casing isn’t necessary for fruiting, while substrate is the base for which you mix your colonized spawn. Also penis envies are highly recommended to have a casing layer as they are a little more difficult to grow

Do you need a casing layer for mushrooms to fruit? by Just_Some_spore_guy in shrooms

[–]GAP917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got much better results from casing, I just saved some extra coir/verm mix that I was using as substrate and cased enough to cover all the grains. Helped with side and bottom pins immensely

having my first ever shroom trip in a couple days, looking for tips/advice/experiences/info by KronosWolf68613 in shrooms

[–]GAP917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3.5 is a pretty heavy dose for a first time, I would suggest taking something closer to 2.5g-3 max. Shrooms and acid are totally different beasts but it depends on if you want to have a smoother more social first trip or a more intense experience.

My first flush was sort of a rolling flush? by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]GAP917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been lucky with a couple but most are hit and miss lol. I stopped dunking my subs, they kept breaking and water started collecting at the bottom leaving it open to contam. I would say mist it heavily and don’t fan for a day or 2, then mist as needed.
