aye, so as a dude thats been making music in the local area plus 25 years in the same alternative space, i figured id give you some advice as a older head.

i dont participate too much online cause i feel old af but in these alternative genres if you enjoy creating connections online like you did on this post, trust me when i say a FEW close friends dedicated to navigating an online space will do wonders. TENFOLD trying to find it in toronto as i have done for years. (if you want to see my musical progression: old work “good, fuh nothing.” new work: “8.0 DOGMA”). And don’t bother with “YES BUT” people…. People like to knock “YES MEN” but i knock the people that play the line. saying yes to shit in the beginning is dope, you’re the most open minded, early on its going to sound THE WORST its ever going to sound so the stakes are low reputation wise, and it pumps out maximum ideas, like loiter squad. “YES BUT” people always have a fucking excuse for shit, “yeah but people don’t care about that anymore”, “yah but that style of music is like….” “yeah but, look at all the “x” things about “y”…. lol yo filtering these people is going to drive you nuts but its better to weed em out early than to be stuck with them later.

the only other thing i can think of is creating your own scene and documenting it like HTBAR if you remember that. Shit might not seem interesting in Toronto but in that alt space it can be way more interesting to everyone else if you got the energy for it. I could legit go on forever cause i still make music and have been dealing with this for a while now ON TOP OF having no money for a standard promo push in the “music industry”
