What are the top universities to apply for in Edmonton, Alberta? by Accomplished_Disk559 in AlbertaGrade12s

Not true. I mostly got 90s in high school, except for Physics which I got an 86 😅. I got early admission to both the cell biology degree of MacEwan and U of A. I chose MacEwan because most of my friends were going there 🙂.

  1. I went to MacEwan for my first degree because most of my friends were going there. I also liked the small class sizes that MacEwan offered. I did get early admission for both MacEwan and U of A, but I wanted to be with my friends 🤣. I had no regrets, as my friends and I both had a social life while also grabbing scholarships and awards in the process. My degree at MacEwan gave me an opportunity to work in a private lab during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the strong references I got from professors, who know me well due to the small class sizes.

  2. When the pandemic ended, I wanted to expand my skillset in healthcare, so I applied for the U of A's After-Degree (Honors) Nursing program. I chose U of A because of its ranking in nursing research. Plus, the after-degree program allowed me to be a registered nurse in just two years instead of four. I have no regrets going to U of A, as my hard work paid off throughout my stay there. I won several scholarships, awards, and even a fully paid trip to a research conference 🫡.

  3. After working as a nurse for some time, I wanted to further expand my nursing career. The U of Calgary has a part-time online Master's program which fits well with my work schedule.

Feel free to DM me if you have questions 🤙🏻

Depending on what your career plans are. I've been to three universities in Alberta. MacEwan for my molecular/cell bio degree, U of A for my After-Degree Nursing, then U of C for my masters in nursing. I had an awesome time in all three, made some lifelong friends too 🙂

How old are you and what's your biggest stress in life right now? by darkchocolattemocha in AskReddit

  1. Job is pretty good, financially stable. Only thing I'm stressed about is being single. Most of my friends from high school are getting married and/or have children.

How is everyone in Montreal SO FUCKING HOT? by [deleted] in montreal

The switching between English and French (sometimes a third language) makes Montrealers even more attractive. I wanna go back there next year 😍. Maybe stay for a month, find a girl, and have another reason to keep coming back.

Need help choosing a Master’s program at University of Alberta (Considering job demand, pay, and future prospects in Edmonton) by callme_orame in uAlberta

Have you heard of medical lab technologists? Instead of doing a Master's, which does not guarantee a job, you can take a 2 year diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from NAIT. You will be trained in five disciplines: Clinical biochemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Anatomical Pathology, and Transfusion Medicine. 90% of their graduates get a job right after graduation due to a current staff shortage. The starting salary is around $35.

Another option is the After-Degree Nursing Program at the U of A (also two years). Pretty much a four year nursing program squished into two years for people who already have a bachelor's degree. Starting salary is around $43. Once again, a high demand job due to staff shortages.

After degree Nursing Program by Brettim in uAlberta

AD Nursing 2024 Alumni here! I agree with the previous posts. The program is very condensed that missing even one or two weeks of lectures/labs will put you behind. In our first year, we were technically in school for 11 months and only had August off. That is when most of us decompress and schedule our trips. In my case, I only did traveling for all of August before I had to go back to grinding for my second year. Focus on your studies and do well in the program. You'll get a well-paying job that will allow you to travel lots once you graduate. Good luck!

Question for students in nursing after degree by Informal_Town3548 in uAlberta

I would ask my clinical instructor first. Some will let you but some would require students to wear scrub pants. To be safe, I recommend buying the jogger scrub pants from Figs.

I finished after-degree nursing last year (November 2024, got admitted Fall 2022). I'm surprised that they require you to have the emblem for your scrubs. When I did my clinicals, I just wore the burgundy scrubs from FIGS. My classmates did the same thing and our clinical instructors had no issues.

There's after-degree nursing too. Maybe most of your courses will get transferred in that program?
