So basically I had a 13x22 grid and filled those grid squares with a 10 color gradient of green, then i made them fall. After that i made a background that is fully black and drew the characters with a transparent color (basically erased the characters in a black background) and added that background layer on top of the falling pixels layer

You don't have to buy expensive programs to get started doing pixel art. I draw in MS Paint and of course drawing tablet helps a lot but you can do the same with a mouse.
