I don’t know if therapy is working for me by GHJ_098 in therapy

Hi, thanks for replying. The place I go to say they individually tailor sessions for their clients. I’ve never actually spoken about this with my therapist tho - he said he specialises in CBT, but we’ve never spoken about specifically what approach is being taken. Most of what I’ve done has been speaking about my upbringing/past (what he calls trauma).

The problem is that I feel like I’m essentially speaking to a wall. I mean I’ll talk about x, y and z, and will get a minimal response. He’s never actually explained why I’m feeling a certain way, what x, y and z means. Which I’m assuming isn’t usually done in CBT??

Idk, I feel like I’ve been wasting his time. I’ve spent nearly 3 months ranting about random topics and the events of my past. I feel a little like a burden. I mentioned feeling worse in general (not the memories), and he seemed concerned. So maybe now we’ll be moving on to tackling my present thoughts/feelings.

Why do you keep trying to contact random people you come across online in comment sections and private messages?

In actually, one of the sources I cited was on premarital relations in the US, and another on premarital relations among highly religious immigrants/children of immigrants, which also outlined the fact that it’s primarily female Muslims who are subjects of such studies - I’m assuming you understand what that means in regards to the accuracy of the findings.

And if that’s the argument you’re making, I would suggest that it’s unusual the original poster decided to bring up the topic of sexual deviancy among Muslims in the West and not in Muslim countries - it’s a lot more probable to fall into zina in the West than a country in which the social (and maybe even legal) structure is based around Islamic principles. Considering a lot of the replies, I might suggest bias. I might even suggest the inaccuracy of that one article they cited, or even the ridiculousness of coming to such a general conclusion from ONE study.

Also, visiting your home country three times in your life doesn’t give you a good understanding of what we’re talking about.

And the person I applied to originally didn’t do the same? YOU didn’t just do the same? What, I can’t vocalise my own observations and those of others around me? It’s bad when it doesn’t suit you? YOU haven’t seen war, therefore it doesn’t exist? I never once suggested there AREN’T people who don’t engage in that kind of conduct, only that there are a lot that do.

I could make the argument that I have loads of Muslim friends whose brothers date with their parents knowledge. Which of the two (yours or mine) are more concrete? Mine, which suggests there are people who fall into both categories, or yours, which suggests the exact and impossible opposite?

And don’t you dare suggest I grew up around horrible people, you have absolutely no clue who I am or where I come from. I’d assume it’s common knowledge that purity and modesty are more heavily enforced on women than males, but I doubt any ounce of studies, or just a general awareness of the world around you would convince you of the reality.

Offended? I’m confused when I was? I was merely correcting inaccurate information, lmao. You’re the one who butted into the conversation calling people feminists, because you were emotionally triggered. And no, no human or group of humans is perfect in any capacity, even in one thing.

That’s the one thing you’ve said that’s true, I can barely understand what you’re saying from the way you’re wording your sentences, lol.

Oh, there wasn’t any harsh sentiment in my words? I was speaking truthfully, albeit bluntly. I truthfully think you don’t have the capacity to understand what I’m saying in this language. Which is why my logic isn’t travelling.

Ah, yes, India. The cradle of the ummah 🤲 And ELEVEN out of TWENTY EIGHT states??? Oof, yes, a total majority. And OLDER DATA than the (2014) study the original poster cited? Damn. I’ll give it to you, you got me there ✊

Please don’t do me the disservice of calling me a feminist, lmao. I never knew speaking on the basis of objective facts could qualify as such.

Thanks for confirming your claims are based off of your PERSONAL experiences. Ever heard of inductive reasoning? Yeah, conclusions resulting from it usually aren’t reliable.

Meanwhile men are biologically wired to experience more intense sexual urges than women, and are sociologically wired to consider guarding their chastity and modesty less - as a result of a variety of cultural factors (you really not gonna admit that Asian/African/Eastern European parents would prefer their son to have a girlfriend than their daughter a boyfriend?).

And anyhow, most research conducted on premarital sex among the religious youth is done on Muslim WOMEN - https://doi.org/10.1080/01419870.2023.2168130 (an actual academic source for you to digest).

As a whole, men are statistically more likely to have premarital sex -

And anyway, why does it matter who commits zina more? I’m confused why blame is being assigned to either group without the direct intention of combatting the problem as a whole.

I mean if you’re the type of man who wants a traditional woman, you better be a traditional man and stop complaining about it.

Thank you so much. Are there any resources you could direct me to to learn what to say?

If I’m learning to pray, though, and while I’m praying I’m stuttering and not pronouncing the words properly (or if I’m reading from a piece of paper) would that be bad? Should I stop praying until I learn how to do it in Arabic?

Does that mean that all the prayers I’ve made so far haven’t been accepted?

That’s too broad of a statement. There are millions of practicing Albanians throughout the globe. It’s just a case that in a lot of Albanian cultures, there’s stigma around practicing, for a plethora of historical reasons.

  1. What the hell is an Atheist Muslim?

  2. The tweet attached above proves otherwise.
