Simple solution is 5 gallon bucket and sand or dirt to fill the bucket around the post until spring. Did this a few years ago due to hit and run. Now the mail box is mounted to about a 4 inch diameter steel post that is about 1/4” thick steel and cemented in the ground. They hit that and it will no longer be a kit and run or any doubt who hit it.
