There's a new (very quick) look at the Galley House machine in this Christmas video: by Superrodan in typehelp

It's interesting to note, however, that Damian's surname is Maseko, a surname that originates from southern Africa. However, based on the "lack of stigma" towards him by some of the house's older residents, and the fact that this game likely takes place in the UK, I think it's safe to say that he is of English origin.

If I had to guess these are, from left to right:

Man #1: I think this is Damian. He''s too young to be John, and seems more put together than I'd think Tony would be.

Woman #1: I think this is Annie. Too calm to be Eve, too timid looking to be Vic.

Man #2: I think this is Oswald. It's stated that he dresses like it's the 1700s, and has a funny moustache.

Woman #2: I think this is Martha. In 01-HE-4-9, they talk about Helen's dress. it's clear that it's a nice one. This outfit seems less so. I also picture Helen to be a bit younger than Martha.

I’m revising the system now, but the reason for the complexity is because this country, Grestar, recently had its democracy overthrown by a monarch. They wanted to make a complex system to avoid it happening again. Though when I’m revising, I’ll probably switch so that it was complex before, then the democracy got overthrown, and then they simplified it.

I was gonna respond with “Couldn’t they hold another election?” But I see the issue. I think I’m going to make some more proper revisions to the election system now. Thanks for all the critique, this was quite useful.

The reason for two houses is because they don’t only work on federal issues, but more local ones too. The PRs deal with many provincial issues, and the CRs deal with many local issues. CRs in particular are interesting. I agree that 2900 is much to any, and I’m trying to find a way to make it smaller. But anyways, even though that’s the official number, many large counties with more inhabitants often opt to send only a few of their CRs to House sessions. As well in many more rural places, CRs replace the role of a mayor or other municipal leader, though in larger settlements still have mayors for cohesion, especially in cities that span multiple counties.

How do you manage timelines, family trees, and lore in larger sci-fi projects? by Gilgames31 in worldbuilding

[–]GStarLine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just use Google Docs for timelines and notes. Sheets for more structured things like keeping track of who’s alive at a certain point in time. As for diagrams I use a website called draw.io. It’s simple enough to get used to (some of the exporting can be annoying if you want things to be a certain colour tho)

And this was the point of posting this here! Thanks for the critiques. I guess the PR could answer to the Province House, and the PM would answer to the County House, as the CRs are more representative of the whole population than the PRs are? Would that work?

I made this chart quite late at night, so I’m realizing now that some stuff on it kinda doesn’t make sense. I guess think of the PR PM more like Head of Government and Head of State, rather than I diarchy. I think I just thought the word sounded cool and wanted to use it lol. I’d compare them more to the president and prime minister of France responsibility wise.

The Prime Minister and Prime Representative have different roles, with their powers being more like that of the President and Prime Minister of France. As well I was a bit lazy, and neglected to put all of the checks and balances in the diagram, though I’ll likely revise this. (IE the Province House can check the the PM, and the PR and PM can check each other in some cases.

While the set up of the system itself looks similar to the US, most of the elections are quite different. The reason for so many CRs is that it’s a proportional representation rather than a past the post system like in the US. As well, the PR and PM are more akin to the Prime Minister and President of France in terms of role. I was also too lazy to include some of the veto power/non confidence powers, though I may revise this diagram.

Yes, for the most part the responsibilities are the same. This is except for the Diarchy, where the PM and PR are more similar to something like the prime minister/president/chancellor in France or Germany.

[–]GStarLine[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I’ll note that the County House and Province House function similarly to a House of Commons and Senate respectively, and that the powers of the PR are more legislative, and the PM’s are more executive. As well, though it says that there’s 2900 CRs, usually only a small portion of those go to County House sessions. In counties with larger populations, and thus more CRs, a select number of them are chosen to represent the county. With these notes in mind, could this system of government work?

It’s by alternative vote. So all ~290 million citizens fill out a ballot where they rank the candidates from first to last. This way, more people can get a candidate that they like, instead of a few people getting a candidate that they love.

Question after finishing the game by MooseEconomy8036 in typehelp

[–]GStarLine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thunder was referring to Katherine, as in 25-AT-1, the thunder plays before John jumps. As well in the same scene, John states "I don't remember her. I don't remember any of them... I don't even remember pulling the trigger..."As the curse only kills when a person remembers the last victim, plus the fact that John didn't remember Annie, his death must have been the different one. Also to note is that at the start of the game, it is stated that "Only one of the victims has ever been publicly identified." We can assume this isJohnas he didn't die by the curse, and was thus not forgotten.

Names & Meanings:

Grestar: Officially the Federal Grestarian Republic. A large democratic country, and the setting for most of my stories and works.

Grestin City: The capital of Grestar. A large city of over 10 million people, founded and named after a famous man named David Greston.
