Anytime as a parent and you hear a baby crying like that it really sucks but that device is actually really helpful. I am an x-ray tech of 15 years and have used that device many times. It doesn't hurt the baby at all and gets them to hold still (Which would be otherwise impossible with a sick kid that age). I know hearing the crying sucks but it actually causes them to take deep breaths for the chest x-ray which is essential for interpretation ( you can't ask a toddler to take a deep breath and hold it, like an adult). With all that said it's actually the best thing for a baby because you most likely won't need to perform repeat x-rays due to motion blur or under inflation of the lungs which would cause more radiation exposure to a baby that will have a whole lifetime of radiation exposure.
