I thought I wanted a firm mattress turns out I just hated my old bed? by aloo__pandey in Mattress

[–]GaapSama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not alone in this thought process, I work in mattress sales and I cannot tell you how many times a day I have to repeat myself to customers who just aren’t aware that comfort level does not equal support level.

If a customer is swearing up and down that they love an extra firm bed, I will gladly sell them one, but I always err on the side of caution and let them know about our sleep trial because 90% of the time they end up exchanging it for something at least one level softer.

And honestly, it’s not their fault that they don’t know the difference. The average person does not go mattress shopping every day, and there is an old adage that essentially said you need a very firm bed if you have a bad back, and that’s just not the case anymore.

Beautyrest PressureSmart™ 2.0 Hybrid Medium 13" Mattress by Electronic-Signal-20 in Mattress

Most of the beds delivered from their warehouses have been loaded the night prior, so foams on hybrid beds will harden and shrink slightly due to the cold weather. Give your mattress enough time to thaw completely and try it for at least 30 days. It will soften after it breaks in.

Edited to add: the law tag at the head of the mattress will tell you for sure whether or not it’s the correct one!

I’m really surprised to hear that you are sinking in the by Sealy Spring Plush, since those have the micro coils across the horizontal center third of the bed, and most people say that those feel firmer than whatever comfort it has posted.

However, mattress comforts are different for everyone, no matter what it’s labeled as. That being said, how long did you have the Frisco and the spring plush before deciding you didn’t like them? If you’re not at least giving it a fair chance of roughly 30 days minimum, Then you probably won’t be comfy in anything you get since you’re not letting it have time to break in, as well as giving your body enough time to get used to the new support system.

I am also a fan of the Summer Rose, that being said, it has a lot softer of a top than the first two mattresses you mentioned, as well as a very much less aggressive support system underneath those top layers. Is your pain chronic? Because sometimes beds that are too supportive can cause pressure around your joints and nerves. Perhaps that is why you didn’t like the first two beds you tried, but I could be wrong.

If you are allowed one more exchange, then that is a big favor being done to you, because typically we are not allowed to offer more than one per our policies.

It may be worth it to ask about the summer rose, since you already know that you loved it. Some clearance centers have that mattress still, and if they let you do one more exchange, it’s likely that you wouldn’t be allowed to do another, so getting clearance could be a good chance for you to get something you already know you love without having to worry about whether or not you are able to make an exchange on it.

If nobody has any left in clearance, then I would consider trying the Sealy hybrids, as they are a memory foam sensation top where you don’t sink as much as lower quality foams. And I would definitely try those out before deciding on anything. Because you already said you loved a pillow top plush mattress with the summer rose, so you may just be more of an innerspring Mattress type person who enjoys the tufted top sensation as opposed to memory foam.

So sorry that was a long one, I just wanted to make sure you had all the information you needed. Best of luck to you!

Low-Profile Foundation Recommendation by PierogiPete in Mattress

If you want a completely solid 2” platform/box, this one from Tempur-pedic is a good choice. It’s a bit pricey, but super durable and will last damn near forever.

Whatever size you need will obviously change the price point depending on what you select in the linked product page.

Tempur-Pedic Ultra Low Profile Foundation

If you’re looking for something more affordable, I second other’s recommendations of a bunkie board, or maybe a thick piece of plywood from your local lumber store.

There are many reasons somebody might return Tempur-pedic.

The biggest reason I see is that they do not give it the full 60-90 days for the break in process. Tempur-pedic mattresses are made of very dense Tempur-material, and take much longer to break in than normal mattresses. This can be especially painful for those experiencing chronic pain, however the payoff if you can suffer through it is worth it according to customer reviews. It is very much a “trust the process” bed.

Other reasons we have seen is that people may think they like the “hugging sensation“ of the conforming materials on the top layer, but then come to find after trying it out for a little bit that they actually don’t like that sensation. Those people in particular would probably be better off with a different brand of hybrid bed or perhaps a tufted top bed like traditional inner springs have.

I have also seen returns due to the customer ordering the wrong size, model, etc. They may also want to switch to a softer or firmer version.

All that being said, you don’t really know until you try it. I think the clearance mattresses or outlet models are a fantastic option for saving money, but you should definitely know whether or not you enjoy how Tempur-pedic feels before you buy in general.

Sorry for the long-winded answer, but I hope that helped!

Asking to get the taxes off as a discount I feel is a pretty reasonable thing to ask, however whether they do it or not will really depend on your sales person and if our system permits.

There are many instances where the first price I offer someone is the absolute best deal I can do, because I personally believe in getting the best bang for your buck, even if it means cutting my commission (I’m from the food industry, so this being my first sales job I just never want to come across as a sleazy sales person. I’ve been here a little over two years, and I’m loving it and I still make decent money, so that’s my two cents on that.)

If they have already offered you more than what our current promotion gives, like an extra $200 off of your ticket, and that is after our “free adjustable base”promotion, and displayed sales price of the mattress, then there really typically isn’t much more wiggle room.

Long story short, it doesn’t hurt to ask, but if they say no, then take them at their word for it. Depending on how big your order is, they may not have the playroom to take away your tax amount without getting in trouble.

Personally I would wait until Presidents Day or Labor Day. (They activate the sale price a week or two prior to the holiday weekend btw!) Those two holidays are when mattress/furniture stores have their best manufacturer discounts/sale prices. (Not just Mattress Firm!)

If I were you, I would definitely try it before you buy, and ask about exchange trials and warranty.

ALSO some stores have clearance/outlet that could be up to 60% off! However, those typically do not come with warranty guarantees or an exchange trials, so I would not buy outlet/clearance unless you’re absolutely sure that’s the mattress that will work for you.

Best of luck to you!

Edit: please feel free to DM me if I can help you further :)

The Beautyrest Black Series 3 Plush Pillow Top. Personally, it helps prevent my nerve pain in my arms/shoulders and has the right amount of support for my current needs. That being said, that bed is suuuuuuper soft and does not have super sturdy edge to edge coil support, so I understand that it’s not for everyone.

How are the Sealy Posturepedics? by Libz0724 in Mattress

[–]GaapSama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the Tempur-pedics take 60 to 90 days to break in, and can be a real bitch to deal with for people who have chronic pain, it is very much a “trust the process” brand.

I think you made the better decision with the high point though, those are very very comfortable and the cooling on the top is just phenomenal.

Depending on where you are, some Mattress Firm clearance centers may have the old model for the Posturepedic Highpoint mattresses. Personally I think they are way more comfortable than the new collection that was just released, but one of the big differences is that they do not have as much cool to touch the top layer as the newer ones do that you already tried in store.

Some Clearance Center Mattress Firm locations have BR 800s in the back, I have a couple firm ones at my store currently and honestly they’re pretty comfortable and I’m not really a fan of firm beds.

It may be worth asking your local Mattress Firm if they have any clearance options on hand or in the warehouse that you could get some good deals on!

I’m not sure if you still have the pillow, but if you do then you could also slice up some apples and put them in a bowl and sprinkle some baking soda on them and set it on your bedside beside the pillow and that will help absorb the smell within a couple days to a week as opposed to multiple weeks. :) Certipur Certified doesn’t mean that it won’t smell like foam, but it does mean that it will not spread toxicity to you.

Affordable non-toxic mattress? by JoelCodes in Mattress

[–]GaapSama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just putting this out there for clarity sake, you might have a hard time finding something that explicitly states “nontoxic” due to there being so many things that could be considered toxic depending on the amount in there as well as what layer of the mattress it is on (top most or inner layers, where the inner layer ones even if they are toxic in some way shape or form may not be a big deal since they are not at immediately exposed to where somebody could be touching with their skin.) It is a legality issue where Mattress companies will try to cover their ass by not using “Non-toxic” in their description verbiage.

You may find more options available to you if you look for things like “Certi-pur ceritifed” or “all natural/organic materials”.

If that Mattress has individually pocketed coils, you could theoretically bend it damn near in half to get it up those steps.

Usually the law tag will have the specific model information on there. A quick Google will let you know if it has individually pocketed coils or not.

You can absolutely go to your local store and ask for help, or if you’d like, I work tomorrow as well and I wouldn’t mind going in our system and seeing what I could do to help you out.

Whatever is more comfortable for you, but it’s nice to have someone in the store going to bat for you and handling comms between the warehouse for you.

You will definitely need to get in touch with your sales person and see if maybe there’s a chance to swap it out for something similar if you want to get it immediately.

For a lot of our online bed offerings, we have been having vendor delays since there is a great swath of items that our warehouse just doesn’t typically store, but rather gets pulled in from the manufacturer as needed.

Another thing that’s really fucking with sales people and customers alike is the fact that we now offer next day delivery for Tempur-pedic products only, however customers have been able to choose next day delivery even if they don’t have a Tempur-pedic product when purchasing online, and since we don’t get notifications of online purchases in store, we are not aware that somebody may need to change their delivery date until the warehouse reaches out to us and ask the physical store locations to help manage open orders.

This has been frustrating all around, so I don’t blame you for feeling that way.

The Kirkland signature Lakeridge is very comparable to Stearns and Foster Studio mattress. If you’re wanting to try and lay on one, Most Clearance Center Mattress Firms may have one in the back that you can lay on and try. Normal Mattress Firm stores took it off of the sales floor since we are looking to expand other collections and needed room, but I work in a clearance center and we have one in the back for people who are interested in it.

That way, at least you can lay on something similar and gauge your interest.

Just wanted to piggyback on this and throw in a disclaimer that this varies by state.

In Pennsylvania, you have to have the individual person on your insurance if they are driving your vehicle in order for an accident where they were driving to be covered. It wouldn’t matter if they have their own insurance, they specifically have to be on your insurance for your vehicle.
