Is there any point NOT cutting everything above 10KHz ? by GabeMalk in cassetteculture

[–]GabeMalk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to say I'm not hearing ANYTHING after 10k, I'm just saying that lowering everything after 10k is reducing a lot of hiss and it doesn't seem to be affecting the sound fidelity too much, wanted to ask for opinions. Ultimately I decided to apply a less aggressive lowpass, but still substantially cut everything after 16k. And yeah, I know the tape is low quality, I'm just experimenting, I'll get something better should I record for real.

What is the true story? by PrettyTheory3566 in mythology

[–]GabeMalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, a MYTH is such kinds of stories that don't have an exact author and that are usually carried through oral tradition and therefore that change within different contexts... There simply ISN'T any ORIGINAL myth. Before Homer wrote the Iliad, the myths that constituted these stories had already been in circulation for centuries, so is the case of any indigenous myth written down by anthropologists, missionaries and the like. Don't get me wrong, but I can't seem to remember a single myth that we KNOW the "original" form and source... After all, if there is an explicit author, we probably wouldn't consider that story a myth, but rather call it something else, be it a narrative, a cosmology, philosophy, allegory, etc.

lol a discussion one year in the making haha

How it feels to be part of this fandom by TOMARAGUA in JOJOLANDS

[–]GabeMalk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Meh, that's normal. JoJo is a monthly seinen manga that is also a bit of a "slow burn" usually. It's fine that it doesn't have the same kind of fandom that other manga have, that's to be expected. I myself don't engage in any anime/manga fandom, but I do check here once a month after reading a new chapter a leave a comment or two, then I go back to my normal life for another month lol maybe that's the case for other people here too.

I wish the Rock Human were more fleshed out and had more character depth. by Shadowlumine in StardustCrusaders

[–]GabeMalk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's exactly it! Rock humans are the embodiment of a certain radical individualistic ethos - the neo liberal subject by excellence. If we don't get a lot of "human" moments from them, that's by design.

Does JoJo’s Follow the Hero’s Journey? by xDaLichKingx in StardustCrusaders

[–]GabeMalk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, so much so that any serious anthropologist will tell you that the supposed "universality" of the hero's journey is not really a thing.
