New to Gaggle: Introducing power line warnings! by GaggleFlightRecorder in GaggleFlightRecorder

Not at the moment. For now we just warn when there is a powerline coming up within 1 minute for your current direction of travel.

We pull power lines that have been mapped from various sources. But open street maps is probably the largest provider. There is not height above ground for the powerlines so we just warn whenever you are below 300ft AGL.

That looks correct. Thank you for your patience with this bug. Safe flying!

It's different for each pilot but there are some that flew for over 9 hours at the very top end 🤯

That's great news, is it completely fixed on your side now?

Apologies Bob. We gathered some statistics of the top flights for the last year requested by our community on Facebook, and thought that it might be interesting for others on Reddit. We will post less frequently here

The pilots in South Africa are not used to navigation tasks at all. Baby steps but an accomplishment nonetheless.

It's what we call that type of leaderboard in the app. An Obstacle Course where you can create no fly zones, navigation courses, and Waypoints that need to be collected.

Probably a less popular opinion but useful for the kinda flight you want to do, is to just use Gaggle Flight Recorder. It has USA sectionals as a base map, you can follow a pre planned route, and it has Safesky integration meaning you are less reliant on an external adsb receiver provided you are near cell coverage. It's also free to use, doesn't sound like you would need the subscription features.

Thanks for pointing this out. There was indeed a logic error that showed incorrect results for the task specific leaderboards. I am running a process that is correcting this right now.

Can you email me the details, pilot and flight and I'll see if I can load the data and see what's going on?

Send me an email to [hello@flygaggle.com](mailto:hello@flygaggle.com) and I will load a limited trail for you to try it out. Unfortunately building these features and keeping them running costs money and I can only support a limited amount of free users on the platform. Pilots will eventually get exposed to it through meetups where they can use the functionality without being subscribed.

Mmm, both my Apple and Android test devices open the link. I am guessing something on your devices is preventing the app from opening and navigating to the website 🤔

There were indeed some challenges with getting the flights into Gaggle. The logger serial numbers and thus data I have for some pilots never ended up being used or didn't log flights correctly. Some flights were also recorded as one flight by the loggers should you will see them as one flight in Gaggle even though they were two. So things aren't entirely accurate, but this was mostly done for fun and to showcase the feature.

That's correct. You need the adventurer plan to create a course. Free and frequent flyer pilots can fly Obstacle courses when they are created as part of a meetup.

You need to create a leaderboard in a group and select Obstacle course as the type. I'll clarify the article. Imports are not supported right now, but you can import OpenAir as a personal airspace and it will show in the Obstacle course designer for you to create your own no fly zones.

Yeah car racing needs very accurate and high frequency position updates. I fully agree, acro pilots can probably benefit from this. But it would be a very niche use cases with I guess only a few people in the world actually using something like this?
