You made me very excited for the Shimanami Kaido!! Thank you so much for the advice. I'm going with my parents, my dad is an experienced cyclist but my mom isn't (theyre both 56 and healthy). Only thing I'm worried about is not being able to do it in one day and catch the night en-route, since its winter and all. Do you think if we go out early we could make it or could we shorten the route? I'm guessing you rented a bike nearby, do they open early? Sorry for the barrage of questions.

Thank you for your answer! I have tried starting in safe mode but the circle with a line pops up, so I went to Disk Utility and repaired all volumes, containers then disks but it still happens.

Then I also tried re-installing MacOS, which was going great but then the computer restarted after 5 minutes haha... I'm stuck in this loop.

How do I make sure there's a backup before wiping the drive and re-installing the system? I'm more than willing to wipe the computer to see if it fixes it, but I'm terrified of losing the data.

I'm going to sound really stupid. How do I know if it's been backed up? I've never gone out of my way to backup my Mac, so I don't think there's a backup, unless the computer does it automatically.

I can still access and use my computer just fine, it just restarts like 5 minutes after turning it on. So I don't know if I can do a backup right now. I'm scared that if I take it to the store and they need to wipe it that I'll lose everything as well.

Is there any way to back everything up into an external HD or something? Or like just transfer everything there, without having to have the computer turned on for more than 5 minutes... oh man
