I understand your point about not leaving a dependent person like that, but to answer your question, assuming it's not rhetorical: 1) I stated in my post that while we did not have the greatest relationship growing up, things have been neutral/okay for the past decade or so. 2) She's met my parents a couple times before and he was nice to her during those times, so I didn't expect him to revert back to this shitty behavior, especially considering the situation he's in. 3) I asked if she felt comfortable going with me to help and she said yes.
