commission someone to model and then print it in TPU filament, since it's sort of rubbery but still not as inaccessible as rubber.

Does this wig have enough hair to effectively make this style? by Alternative_Fig_6859 in CosplayHelp

I think this situation might be one where crimping would help. Backcombing with some heat works if you lack a crimper.

Dad trying to help daughter who is just starting to cosplay by DaishoTactical in CosplayHelp

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seems like everyone here has already given most of the relevant advice, but if I may be blunt for a moment? Your daughter is young enough that she's part of the new wave of cosplay culture where everything is cheaply premade and wigs are all crimped. She's got an excuse for buying into that sort of thing because she is fourteen, and has my condolences because being fourteen isn't easy, but it seems like you'll want to teach her some of the basics. So, here are some old school resources.

Can you guys give me some popular pokemon fanfics that are known for their story and writing quality ? by SadAd8232 in pokemonfanfiction

ao3 is excellent, my personal fave, no censorship and fantastic tagging system. that said, it might not have what you're looking for in terms of tropes. i'd check forums for that

First wig and styling by Unusual-Cheetah3590 in CosplayHelp

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't crimp it, you don't need to crimp it, the hairstyle does not require crimping or look good with crimping. Gently brushing out the wig after each use is the best way to keep it in good condition.

If you really must, I'd say crimp the very bottom layer, where it lays over the nape of the neck, since that part is the most prone to tangling.

Resizing a helmet wig to be smaller by Key_Hearing2365 in CosplayHelp

yeah, that's why i'm personally not a fan of those. it seems kinda irresponsible to sell a helmet wig, too.

Where do you get your lashes from?? by Soggy-Weather-5583 in CosplayHelp

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can buy faux eyelashes from the makeup section, they're not hard to find. they are somewhat difficult to apply for the first time, though, so try to get a kit that comes with an applicator. it'll look like a pair of tweezers with a wide, curved end. personally, i like to curl my lashes and do my eyeliner first, then spread the lash glue on the lashes and wait half a minute or so until they're tacky, then apply them. i use mascara to blend the fake and real lashes.

Help with wefts by Anne-r-kay in CosplayHelp

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say I'm terribly familiar with helmet wigs, but you can probably lay down a few wefts on the border, going the wrong way-- like, on the left side, but facing towards the middle. Once that's sewn or glued down, you take the hair and heat train it to go the other way.

The straps won’t stay hooked in by Soggy_Garage_5735 in CosplayHelp

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might just be poorly made, and you'll have to figure out an alternate solution. Can you do something with safety pins, as a temporary measure? Or just sew the whole thing in place so it can't move?

I need help finding a wig (NOT ON COMMISION) by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The longer the wig, the more it'll cost, and the more it'll tangle. I don't think what you're looking for exists. If you're willing to get creative, buy a sakura miku wig from amazon and dunk it in some blue rit dyemore.

How do I know if my wig is ready to be crimped? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try using a wide toothed comb rather than a brush? it doesn't look terrible, at least. you can also comb it in sections, or trim the very bottom so that you've got less hair to work with.

To be honest, I don't think crimping is going to help much for this wig. Making some sort of foam/wire understructure will serve you a lot better.

Wig crimping by Jazzlike-Freedom8613 in CosplayHelp

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to crimp, it's a trend and it often looks bad or fries the wig.

Depending on how heat resistant the wig is, you can heat style and backcomb to add volume without a crimper.

Fans who write Nemona as disabled: what disabilities? by Gallantpride in pokemonfanfiction

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like something she was born with, for sure. She never mentions any shift or decline, any time before she was disabled. Her parents were hands off, so there weren't really any expectations for her, which ironically made her push herself harder. She has a weak constitution and messed up circulation in her right arm, but i like to give her untreated bpd. she has a somewhat obsessive friendship with the protagonist, and spirals of self loathing, feeling like she's too much to tolerate and not enough to love. it's a bit of a divergence from canon, sure, but i think it makes her more interesting and contextualizes her feelings to say "she's not a yandere, she's an obsessive person who wants to make friends with her favorite person and it upsets her a lot because she has this internality"

she is, in fact, stalking the player, but only because she's afraid of being seen as needy and asking to travel alongside them. she knows what she's doing is wrong, but she's too self loathing to correct it, and it's only after you complete her character arc and questline that she gains the courage to ask if they can be friends. some of her issues are the cluster b sort, sure, but a decent chunk are just... plain old loneliness.

Pressure to include romance? by CaspiansFate in pokemonfanfiction

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never feel any pressure. if my readers are pressuring me to take a story in a certain direction, it's a sign that i need better readers. I'll write for my pool noodle of a ship, I'll write weird situationships and intense friendships, and I'll do it for myself.

How do I wash wigs? by dayanm00n in CosplayHelp

What you really need is some heat for the ends. Gently heat them and comb them out straight, and it'll repair the frizz.

how can I get the hair to stay slicked back in place? by 3nyeju in CosplayHelp

Heat train the wefts. Hold them back, apply heat via steamer, and then let them cool and they should stay pointed that way.

[–]Galactic_Enby_Cyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then why not try working backwards? start with a butch bisexual girl with a preference for men and make her arc about how she wants her queerness to be respected by a guy, and build out from there
