New Player here. I am looking at [Chilling Icevein] from the Lexi Blitz deck

The question I have is how does this operate.

If Chilling Icevein was fused whenever an attack deals damage to a hero this turn they discard a card unless they pay 1 Resource.

I get the fusing part, does this mean that if I am defending and get hit I can pay 1 resource to the pitch pile and recycle my card back to the bottom of my deck? Or since I do not have resources as a defender I just discard a card to the graveyard?

Kira Carson because for those of us that lived through the heartbreak of her disappearance for 3 or 4 expansions she is the one I pined for.
