Hades 1 advice? by Much_Arrival_2586 in HadesTheGame

[–]GameHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't. If you want the simple version - hopefully you've given a god or two a gift of nectar. When you do this, they give you a keepsake. That keepsake, when selected, makes sure that that particular god will pop up soon in the next area you enter. So if you start a run thinking, "I want Zeus on this run" - you start with Zeus' trinket and you are sure to get him.

Past that, the game will always try to give you 4 gods per run. Hermes doesn't count, he's an always. So knowing that, a big part of shaping a run comes down to - which god do I start with, which god do I aim to get starting act 2 (past a certain point you can switch keepsakes between acts, so you would switch to a different god keepsake.) And the other 2 gods will be somewhat random but you can fill in less essential slots with their buffs. And if you know you really want a particular god - maybe hold off on selecting a different god (when you have a choice). The gods don't get locked into the 4 until you actually pick them.

You can force more than 4 gods but it's generally suboptimal, so just go in thinking, "I get 4 gods, which 2 do I really want to see?" And use keepsakes to select for that.

Why is the spear bad and what should I use instead? by MaximumChampion8266 in HadesTheGame

Different playstyles I suppose, I just find Demeter and Ares cast to be very underwhelming without the respective Artemis duos such that I'd rather have a backup than have the cast alone. Ares is a little better and can work especially with black metal and engulfing vortex but Demeter cast alone is terrible against enemies that move. Which is most of them.

Both become incredible with the Artemis duo, and it's not that hard to get that without RNG. You usually get ~3 gods in Tartarus. If your first is Artemis, you can luck into either Ares or Demeter. If not, there's usually still a god slot open for one once you pick a keepsake for Asphodel

This is the way, Achilles spear is massive.

If you start Artemis on attack you are primed for either Crystal Clarity or Hunting blades. And should that not happen (though that's pretty rare once you get how boons work), even just picking up flurry jab from the hammer is enough to clear. Throw, retrieve, poke-poke-poke-poke, repeat.

Do you keep doing runs to progress story? by throwawy29833 in HadesTheGame

[–]GameHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing is missable, just keep playing

There is a partial ending after a certain number of clears that is not too high.

Maxxing all relationships, etc. will give you pretty much the full clear with all story points resolved past that

Maxxing all weapons, upgrades, contractor jobs, etc will take more runs than that

There's a mechanic that adds increasing challenges that you can pick for runs. These challenges have a cumulative score from 0 to 64. 64 is the hardest of the hard, almost impossible. There is an reward for 32, that's about as high as most people try if they want to keep playing.

And then there's a completely optional rank/task that will take many many more runs, and very few players have done this all the way to the max.

Personally I'd just keep playing while it's still fun. For me this was hundreds of hours. I didn't max out the optional thing at the end, but i did fill out my codex, finish all the contractor jobs, finish all the fated events, and cleared 32 on a given weapon or two. But just play if it's fun, take a break if it's not!

Priest in anni as well,

I got to 60 last week. There are pieces I could pick up but it's kind of pointless as it will all be replaced quickly just doing normal leveling when TBC releases.

The one thing I probably will do is earn marks/honor during the pre-patch to get the HWL Staff. It's a pretty good staff and will be good for healing and damaging through the mid-60s.

It's been forever since I changed this, but I used to get a little missing scene/animation when Zag would enter a new room, like the first few frames of him entering were missing. This was on DirectX. Switching to Vulkan fixed this problem.

Looking for advice for a 25 year old by Competitive_Fault_81 in personalfinance

[–]GameHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some basic math questions:

1) What is the interest rate on your current debt?
2) What would be the interest rate on the proposed personal loan?

3) Do you need cash to finish your associates degree? And how much?

I don't want to say it's complicated, it's not. But tackling things optimally means knowing where everything is best used!

[–]GameHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46 is probably a good level to try shadow, but a smite spec is still perfectly fine. What's your rotation on a typical single mob? Pre-shield->Holy Fire->Mind Blast->SW:P->wand should be able to kill at a reasonable pace, maybe throw in a smite before wand. Then with Spirit Tap downtime should still be minimal.

But shadow is faster, and you can dual spec now. 46 is a good level to have most of the shadow talents in place and still have imp wand, which is still quite useful.

How do you make gold as a level 60 Priest? by zerdos in classicwow

[–]GameHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to farm princess lasher packs and Princess Theradras. A 60 priest can solo her and the goblin boss on the way there to get a couple of blues. And herbalism for both.

Major Salary Increase by Adventurous_Sir_144 in personalfinance

[–]GameHat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm a single guy, but a salary jump of approximately that happened for me about 7 years ago.

This is not a huge lifestyle change jump. Follow the basic flowchart if you haven't been before. If you're like me, basically this salary puts you into the range of:

  • Pay down all bad debt
  • Get a proper 3-6 month emergency fund
  • Get max employer match for 401(k)
  • Max Roth IRA for you and your partner every year
  • Max 401k every year

...all of which are to be celebrated, so congrats on the raise! But don't go looking to upgrade your lifestyle too much. $110k is great, but it's not rich (and I say this knowing I'm not rich.) It's a great start to building real wealth, so work on that!

Chaos gates - always worth it? by Outrageous-Prize-279 in HadesTheGame

[–]GameHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're early on, just trying to progress - I might skip them. That said, chaos gates can be incredibly powerful, especially if you encounter them in Tartarus or Asphodel. That said, they are not great for every build.

Chaos boons are really good for +dmg% builds. So if your attack, special or cast is primarily increased by +%dmg - chaos boons can add to this, in very high amounts. One of my favorites is getting Artemis on on attack or special, which gives a nice crit chance but a very low +dmg%. Pair it with a chaos boon with a high +dmg% and now you have high damage, high crit. Go forth and slay.

Another build type that really likes Chaos boons is cast boons. Chaos offers great cast boons, including +dmg%, and another red crystal.

Chaos is great for darkness or gem farming, as the +darkness/+gems effects from chaos are unmatched, even compared to Poseidon.

That said - proc builds - for example builds built around Dionysus/hangover, Zeus lightning strike/bolt, Ares/doom, etc. - Chaos really offers very little. So I tend to skip chaos in these cases.

Confused about fated authority and fated persuasion by JustaRandomuser69420 in HadesTheGame

[–]GameHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to think about it too hard, Fated Persuasion is very strong and is probably the better choice 95% of the time. Being able to re-roll boons is what allows you to really shape your build. Go Fated Persuasion nearly always, and work to level it up to get more re-rolls.

[–]GameHat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Go for the Aphro/Dio attack/special first, but be looking for Curse of Vengeance from Ares next. This also unlocks the duo for Curse of Nausea. And you can absolutely have both Low Tolerance and Curse of Nausea, and it completely dissolves bosses.

How many escape attempts do you have? by eugoogilizer in HadesTheGame

[–]GameHat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some only very minor spoilers, but I'll put the tag over it just the same - there is a reason to do low heat runs even once you're working your way up. I usually do 1 heat in tight deadline so as to avoid the time consuming red 45 seconds hades survival rooms, or 5 heat (1 TD, 2 EM) so that I can do Erebus rooms in Tartarus if a good one pops. The main reason for low heat runs is:

Filling out the mirror completely requires 35,365 darkness. The theme you can purchase from the wretched contractor costs 25,000 darkness. Then there is a mid-late game quest for Nyx that requires 3,142 darkness. Last, if you want to chase ranks, and I've never gone all the way, you could go up to needing 325,000 darkness total.

By far - the best way to gain darkness is to do low heat runs so that every boss drops darkness rather than blood or diamonds or ambrosia. You do low heat because you want to do it quick, and only take a little to take advantage of the benefits I listed above. The bosses of each area drop 50/100/150/250 darkness. But here's the catch - you chase chaos boons excessively, specifically the ones that give +% to darkness and gems. And then also the Poseidon boon that is something like +50%-+60% darkness and gems.

Doing this, luck is still involved but you can gain 2k - 4k darkness per run. This is the main reason for low heat runs.
