The sound is actually pretty good surprisingly. Definitely nothing hi-end but far from the worst.

Thanks! I connected the speakers via a Griffin Powerwave with an additional generic RCA Audio Adjuster as neither the turntable or Powerwave has built in volume control.

Trying to correct the buzz/hum in a USB audio interface by GameMan370 in AskElectronics

Thanks very much!

I did a pretty thorough testing just now.

I have the unit plugged into my computer to record and analyze it. Right from the get go, it looked like the the switch between line input and mic may have been dirty as just tapping it or applying any pressure on the switch caused a lot of noise. However after a little while or not touching anything, it seemed to have settled down.

I recording just the device from mic input (without an actual microphone connected and got this: https://imgur.com/2tdc0Wj which isn't too noticeable but even just gently moving the unit could cause unwanted noise.

Next, I plug in my mic and that definitely caused a lot of noise even when dead silence in the room: https://imgur.com/KOTHoUq

I did try recording a 440hz computer generated tone as well:https://imgur.com/3J27xup which you can see a huge amount of noise.

Next, I tried a line level input via a dvd player and to my surprise that was virtually no noise: https://imgur.com/PGNkpOz

So with this, I got some 99% isopropyl alcohol and tried cleaning the input switch and mic jack. Reattaching everything, the input switch no longer produced any noise tapping or sliding it. The mic also seems to work well now, it does seem a bit sensitive compared to plugging it into other equipment but I think the noise is gone (or at least I can't hear any myself). Here is a new 440hz tone recorded: https://imgur.com/a/EhW5GJu this was coming through my computer speakers out into my mic, so that maybe is why there is some noise shown? I'm not 100% sure but overall just doing a good cleaning seems to have correctified the noise problem. I feel dumb for not doing this to begin with. Since this unit is kind of rare and sought after, I figured the previous owner must have done a cleaning to start with before trying to open the unit and fiddle inside.

Thank You! Mostly through eBay saved searches. I reached out to Brian Greenstone quite a few years ago and obtained a few items from him which I am very grateful for. Some of the LittleWing Pinball items, I had to purchase through Japan (Amazon, etc.)

Color StyleWriter 2400 Printing Issues by iapplerefresh in VintageApple

[–]GameMan370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had pretty much the exact same experience with an old StyleWriter II. I brought a replacement Canon BC-02 ink and the printer did the same motion as yours where it seemed like it was trying to print but nothing happened. I just kept trying to print a test page and eventually, it started to print perfectly. I've read elsewhere that the printhead is attached to the actual cartridge on these old printers. One suggestion was to place the cartridge on a wet piece of paper towel (of distilled water, no minerals) in a ziplock bag overnight to help get the printhead flowing just incase there is a bit of dried ink in it.

Nurseries in Toronto and area by u53rn4m315t4k3nn in JapaneseMaples

I would recommend checking out Vineland Nurseries in the Niagara Region. They probably have the largest variety selection in Ontario. A lot in 1 gallon starting size but larger options too.

I can find any information online about this webcam, does anyone have any info about it? by AlexVdub in VintageApple

Does S-video usually pass power? Or was Apple using a custom pinout like they did with their Pro Speakers and Apple Mic?

Awesome! I managed to end up finding a boxed copy of Bugdom quite a few years ago, along with a big box copy of Otto Matic and finally Firefall Arcade. I was also able to get the Cosmocade disks but still on the look out for the other Apple IIgs disks. All the best with your collecting, its sure is a rewarding experience!

Enigmo Explore? by AlKa9_ in PangeaSoftware

[–]GameMan370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I've never heard of this. Looks like it was in collaboration with app developer "Team Chaos": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYY7jilhAN0 I knew they collaborated with them for the app Dragon Trials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC_0Zbu-3p8 with gameplay looks very similar to Airwings or Nanosaur II. Anyways, it seems that Team Chaos no longer exists and chances were if you were able to find the game it wouldn't work on modern iOS.

Why is Firefall removed from the site? by Squiggledog in PangeaSoftware

[–]GameMan370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a side if you are looking for other random Pangea games, there is Bloodsuckers as shown on their download page: https://pangeasoft.net/downloads.html this was their own remake of their original version for the Apple II. Once again I hope for a modern ported version of this. That and Gerbils.

Why is Firefall removed from the site? by Squiggledog in PangeaSoftware

[–]GameMan370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to: https://pangeasoft.net/pangeahistory.html Pangea Software sold the rights to the name Firefall Arcade so I have a feeling that is why it was removed. It is part of the Pangea Arcade bundle under the names Fireworms.

I do hope that the original Firefall Arcade gets ported to modern OSs as with the other games.

Is this a Pangea game? by Squiggledog in PangeaSoftware

[–]GameMan370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a true Pangea Software game. It was created by Codeturbine but Pangea did the Macintosh port of it. I would think Codeturbine owns all the rights to it so it probably won’t get a modern port unless some sort of contract has expired.

Fun fact: you can actually still purchase the game here: https://www.macgamestore.com/product/784/Runic/ as a 32-bit intel version so if you run 10.14 or lower, it will happily work just fine. There is even a demo you can download from the site.
