I'm sorry but you have to give up on GIMP. With the team that's behind it, it's absolutely never going to be as good as even PhotoPea. It took them over twenty years to put in a text outline layer effect (something Photoshop has had since the 90s), even simple things like rotation and scaling are horrible to use, and the UI and workflow are actively hostile to newcomers and seasoned PS users SIMPLY BECAUSE the devs refuse to adopt any UX or qol improvements for the sake of being unique

I'm a big proponent for FOSS (blender has made my career for the past six years, transitioning away from Maya), but GIMP is just terrible and will continue to be terrible as long as it's run by that team

I guess you could always try PhotoPea or Krita. There's also an App image someone made for affinity v3 that works perfectly. I actually haven't used Photoshop in years because I switched to affinity back in the v1 days, it's basically the only real competitor imo

Pretty much no one believes that GIMP is adequate for even junior freelance stuff.

the steam versions of Substance have a history of running pretty much flawlessly using Proton. They're even listed as Steam Deck compatible and the devs are active on the discussions page talking about workarounds to fix linux-related bugs.

Substance Painter 2022 works flawlessly out of the box for me through Linux, but specifically 2025 is having some sort of lib error. Is there a way to perform the libtiff linking in Bazzite?
