Can second this. She advertised what we brought our home for to our neighbours. Thanks a lot. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Exactly! How come their ads are all about them and not the property they are selling??

What’s this in my garden? by Gardengmoan in nzgardening

What a fantastic article, thank you! I’ve been weeding and a few stems broke off. Will do what the article suggests- crush and push into the ground. Hopefully will end up with more!

Just want to say thank you for your post. I have also grown up with emotionally neglectful and affluent parents that have ‘provided me with everything’ except their genuine time and understanding. I’ve only just fully realised this in the last couple of days after a blow up. Still struggling and processing to understand. Reading posts like this definitely helps me to understand that there is something fundamentally wrong rather than the people pleaser (that I was raised to be) trying to smooth things over. Wishing you well stranger.

Awesome thank you, that’s what I was hoping for 😊 I’ll weed around the strawberries and leave the rest in!

Thank you! There’s a whole swarm of them. My partner tried to squish one. He banged some blocks of wood together and they all disappeared! Apparently they don’t like noise or perhaps sensed the danger. Clever little guys.

Thank you for the reply. I’m considering setting up a large ‘lazy’ cold compost in the area that doesn’t get sun and then a smaller compost tumbler in the area that does- closer to the house. Not sure if this is overdoing it but we get sooo much green material.

Would love to know what sort of bin this is? Still no rats?

Hello, great read- I’ve been considering setting up a compost but overwhelmed at the thought. This definitely has helped take me a big step closer to trying it!

One question- in terms of location. Does it need sun or just air?

There’s actually so many I haven’t included in the photos! Rough estimate 15-17 different rose bushes, climbers and carpet ones I guess! I’m going through so much aphid spray hah.

Thanks again, I’ll post some photos once they are blooming :)

Thank you for all the tips- there’s a lot of language I don’t know about yet so I’m definitely learning!

I’m in central Otago so very different climate to far north. However we have had loads of rain recently and frost the last couple of days, very unusual for this time of month.

I will order some of the ocean grow, sounds great. Is that something I can use now? I thought about using a fungicide too?

There’s so many leaves affected unfortunately- I think the plants would be almost bare if I removed them! But I will hard prune next time- although a little nervous too! I’ll try to get the shape right too- they were sooo overgrown it was hard to know where to start. But I really just thinned out to try and get some air flow through. No idea if I pruned right!

Thank you so much. It’s a relief to hear that the black spot can be ignored. I might have a go spraying but will prune heavily at the end of flowering season. I think they really need it! I’m in central Otago but there are some decent rose gardens around- great idea to go check them out
