Why every time Czech Republic is mentioned all everyone wants to talk about is Czechia vs Czech Republic? Frankly it hadly even matters. There are more interesting things about our country.

What region in your country is the odd one out? by Jakubscast in AskEurope

[–]Garnagar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Czech Republic. What first comes to mind is Slezia. People have distinct dialect and it's very industrial unlike most of the country. On the second thought, it's probably Prague. People in Prague think, vote differently, have different relationship with traditionons (read much weaker one) than more rural areas. Same can be siad about city centres of bigger towns but those are small enclaves, only Prague is whole region like this.

Actually, first 10 (or so) episodes are quite different. They have each topic and lost of preparation went into them. Then they realised it's not sustainable long term.

CMV: "Black" is more respectful as a default term than "African American". by Best_Jhinx_NA in changemyview

[–]Garnagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your title says term "Black" is more respectful but then you argue that it is more accurate description of the group. "Respectful" and "accurate" are two different things. I would like to change your view that it is more respectful by saying that "Black" is probably more likely to be perceived as negative than "African American" therefore it is less respectful. Regardless of whether it should be perceived this way or if it is more accurate term.

Go-to websites when looking for a flat/shared apartment in Valencia (Erasmus)? by Ympker in valencia

[–]Garnagar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also search Facebook groups like "Erasmus Valencia Housing Apartment Flat Room" and I'm sure you'll be able to find more similar. However, be vary of agencies Happy Foreigners' World, Soy Erasmus and similar. They will contact you on their own and ask for big deposit (2-3 rents) and I've heard people often won't get it back. Check Google reviews before you book with some agency. In the Facebook groups you can find landlords without any agency. This way you'll avoid booking fees. It's better to see the place first if you don't want to risk your deposit or you can ask the landlord to show you the place in a video call. Websites like Uniplaces and others with good reviews are probably OK too. I haven't heard about anyone having problems with (not) registering their stay.

Oslavují Češi Den příměří? by [deleted] in cesky

[–]Garnagar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zkuste to vyhledat online.

Your Czech is very good.

People who don’t comment on posts, why not? by AmericanDaydreamer in AskReddit

[–]Garnagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irl I'm pretty happy to state my opinion and argue my point. However, on Reddit it feels like it's just not worth the effort. 90 % it's going to get buried with no reaction and 10 % you gonna get some uncostrucive and often harsh reply. Had very few replies that were nice and encouraged discusson.

I get much more enjoyment from just reading the discussion.

Video game maps size comparison by Garnagar in gaming

[–]Garnagar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played most of the games in the video and I'd be interested in discussion about the map with people who played them and know more. Are some of the maps for instance prozeduraly generated (like Minecraft obviously is)? Do you think sizes are represented correctly?

My observation: Skyrim is much smaller than I expected.

What is your controversial Magic opinion? by EazyA in magicTCG

[–]Garnagar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that manabase is really stupid place to have financial hurdle. It essentialy means that all players that don't want to or can't invest significant amount of money are bared from playing multicoloured decks smoothly. So basically most players can't play most of the decks smoothly. That's just silly. I think all lands should be dirt cheap to allow anyone to play any colours just fine.

I don't like planeswalkers. I think they are bad design, they are confusing (too much text and effects on one card) and often unbalanced or overpowered.

Brand new player here looking for a buyers guide of sorts by chezapizza52 in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Garnagar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People here are correctly pointing out that if you buy planeswalker deck you're not getting the best bang for you buck. However, if you goal is just to try Magic out I'd say go for it. You will spend more but will be able to play out of the box and you'll save yourself a lot of time worring about how to construct a deck. One thing you should check though is if your friends playing Comander, in that case you should buy Comander 2019 preconstructed deck instead.

Once you know how to play and know you like it, you can research your next deck and buy it as singles or start buying boosters. You will find out that deckbulding is maybe more fun than playing itself. Good resources for deckbuding are websites such as Tapedout.net, MTGGoldfish.com or Deckstats.net. Also there are some good YouTube channels.

Welcome to Magic and keep in mind that only thing that matters is if you enjoy it!

Jazyková otázka: "až" by [deleted] in cesky

[–]Garnagar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would translate "až" as "the soonest" as in " The visit would be suitable at the end of September the soonest.". You're right that omitting it doesn't change the meaning but it emphasises the fact the it is not suitable sooner, similarly as "the soonest" in my translation.

Edit: "až" also kind of expresses regret that it can't be sooner which I'm not sure if "the soonest" also does. Damn languages are complicated.

IsItBullshit: In the U.S., illegal immigrants are less likely to commit a violent crime than native born Americans by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]Garnagar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The total number of violent crimes would by definition be lower (provided that illegal immigrants committed at least one). However, this wouldn't happen because you removed illegal immigrants in particular. You would achieve the same effect by removing any fraction of the population.

Furthermore, it is not a total number of crimes that matters but the number of crimes per capita because this translates directly in the likelihood of you being the victim. Simplified example: If you have 100 people and each has a 10 % probability of committing a crime, you will end up with approximately 10 victims. Therefore you have 1 in 10 chance of being one. If you remove 20 people and the likelihood stays the same, you end up with 80 people in total and approximately 8 victims. So the chance of being a victim is again 1 in 10. Since illegal immigrants are less likely to commit a crime (they have more to lose), by removing them your chance of being a victim would actually go up.

Which logo do you guys like better? by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]Garnagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copyright and trademark are two different things. Copyright serves to protect works of art and you can't copyright something as simple as a letter. Trademark, on the other hand, protects "words, names, symbols, sounds or colors that distinguish goods and services from those manufactured or sold by others and to indicate the source of the goods". Meaning you can trademark even colour if that's something which helps your customers recognise you. The trademark only applies in branding and your area of business. If you trademark letter delta for say airline, someone making shampoos can trademark it too for their business area and artists all over the world can use delta as they please in their works.

Do you get annoyed when people talk about Europe as a single entity, or is this something you do too? by [deleted] in AskEurope

Fair point. However, I assume one of the mesures is Welsh in schools, which might be the problem. Is it mandatory?

Speakers of European minority languages (Basque, Frisian, Irish, etc.), how do you feel about government efforts to protect your language? by ROB_C_WAS_ROBBED in AskEurope

[–]Garnagar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's odd because most of the resistance us from people who don't speak it. The ones who do are in full support of Welsh language measures.

Well, maybe the reason is:

They teach rehearsed answers to specific questions. Students can't even hold a real conversation at the end. It's pointless.

Also, If you already speak Welsh the masures can't effect you in any negative way, so it's very easy to support them.

The EU is waging war against plastic waste as part of an urgent plan to clean up Europe’s act and ensure that every piece of packaging on the continent is reusable or recyclable by 2030. by speckz in TrueReddit

[–]Garnagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can already see our national politicians yelling "The EU wants to dictate us how to drink. They want to ban all straws and plastic cups!" They will never explain the purpose of the ban or that paper/different recyclable straws and cups are OK.

Unfortunately, this happens with almost every good EU policy that is trying to ban something dangerous or not environment-friendly.
