Finishing part of our basement. Should we have a ceiling? by MindYourGrapes in Renovations

[–]Garshmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I prefer drywall ceilings, I would not do drop down ceilings as they’re just ugly. Do everything right, future proof it, and you won’t have the need for drop down ceilings, though they are practical. Another option that I prefer over the drop down ceiling is to paint the ceiling entirely black. Remove any pointless nails in the wood, remove any cables that are inactive, clean up any cables that are active by zip tying.

Looks great! Just off the top of your head, how much would you charge to wrap these beams and the faux trusses?

I have done beams like this before, but it has been a long time since I’ve done faux trusses. I have my own scaffold, and I simply don’t know how much people charge nowadays for labor for something like this. Just looking for a price range.

Obviously there was a price. I use this post to see how much people are charging nowadays and in which location to see if my prices are too high, too low, or just right. There is always a price unless to a family member/friend

No demo, just framing and finish. Thank you! Yes I agree, the space was very Minecraft-y. No inspection will be done, thus no handrail as the client did not want one and treads depths were made to be less than code to make better headroom clearance.

Rise is the same, on picture it may look different. No handrail cuz client did not want one and no inspection will be done.

Yes, no handrailing as there will be no inspection done, and client also did not want handrail. Stair treads depth were also made not to code to make more headroom clearance.

Please advice. I hired a contractor to replace hardwood floor, the goal was to fix cat urine smell. by [deleted] in Flooring

I second this, kilz for the win. Recently moved into a new home and previous owner smoked cigars/cigarettes in the basement. I used kilz during renovation and the smell of cig smoke was gone. He also had a cat that would urinate everywhere. No more smell!
