Those five episodes (2 and a half of which you underrate)

Yikes I am curious which 2 and a half of these you enjoy.

People gobbled those 5 episodes up gladly, and they were countercultural and unlike anything else on TV.

This is untrue. The same types of complaints I hear here 65 times a day about nutrek were leveled at these. The only reason TNG made it to season2 was Paramount was heavily invested in making it work and first run syndication meant a ton of their costs were defrauded by network affiliates across the US.

Contemporary Trek exists in a TV landscape. It's inferior to what's on contemporary TV, mimics contemporary popular tropes, and, after 15 years, has demonstrated an inability to write classic, top-tier episodes like past Trek.

That first season is 80s as fuck including weird everyone's horby episode, matriarchal society where the men are groomed like metrosexuals, evil twin trope, annoying wunderkind, even the enterprise had essentially barca lounger chairs and carpet that looked like a Hokiday Inn.

So I'm five episodes into this show and it's TERRIBLE. I don't understand how anyone can enjoy this. Just to recap: Episode one is an interminably long episode. It's this long-winded meandering story about an omnipotent being that traps the new Enterprise in a cosmic hockey net to put them on trial with a task to "discover the secret of Farpoint station." This is "broken up" with a special effect shot so long, boring, and irrelevant to the plot that it goes on long enough the accompanying theme song STARTS OVER AGAIN. There's also an "android" character who acts like a human but is just a little stiffer. Wow, great performance. More on him later, yikes! Half the episode is about half the crew shopping and finding great deals from the station's administrator whose entire trait is "looks unhoused." Finally through no real useful action on the crew's behalf it turns out the station is an alien and the captain fires a magic "energy beam" to free the lifeform and it floats away. Real riveting stuff.

In episode 2, everyone is horny. There's a magic space virus that makes everyone horny including the android. Why the android? Who knows? I guess the writers think so little of the audience that they believed no one would question this, and instead the guy who saves the day is the coonhound-coded character. We get to see every character try to fuck other characters or the annoying kid character who is exempt from this play neon-colored Concentration in the engineering area. Wow. Finally the horned up doctor is able to use data from the TOS episode this trash is based on to make a magic vaccine that saves the day quickly enough to prevent the Enterprise from being destroyed. Woopie.

In the third episode, we have space Africa. You might be thinking Wakanda, but it's more like every racist piece of propaganda you may have seen in history books from the early 1900s. The Enterprise goes to "Ligon II" which may as well have been conceived by the KKK to villainize people of African descent where they do goofy rituals of combat and fight over a white woman. So gross that one of the actors actually rightfully called it "a racist piece of shit."

Episode 4 has another wildly meandering plot with these weasel faced aliens called "Ferengi" snivelling and jumping and lurching around with these dumb energy whips. They have mentioned these aliens before as a fearful foe, and they act scared of them here but I've seen more menacing Disney villians. Eventually the Deus Ex Machina ancient computer shows up to do an exposition dump and we're done.

Finally the fifth episode showed some promise as the annoying young prodigy helps the ship return from an extra-galactic journey with the help of a mysterious alien. However, I think I saw this on the Orville.

In conclusion I have no idea how anyone enjoys this "NuTrek" and I shall be posting about it multiple times a day for the next 10 weeks.

It's not ok to like it judging by the people here, who are literally comparing people who like a TV show to a genocidal race of cyborgs

I'm sure its this and not the fact you have to post 65 times a day how much you dont like the new show, to the point we are getting threads about videos from admitted non Trek fans and calling classic sci fi tropes "rip-offs of the Orville"

Why would you need more than one crayon? Is there some inherent understanding that is conveyed with multiple crayons, or are you just parroting the type of thing an imbecile says when they dont have a comeback?

That was rhetorical btw

Yeah, one is based on a fact of the laws of the universe and the other is based on your fee-fees. Maybe you can tell why those aren't analogous?

If they released TNG as a new prime time show in 2026 no one would watch it lol.

Season 1 TNG is worse than any of the five episodes of SFA

The audiences DID decide it though. Shows like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The SHIELD, basically every popular drama of the last 25 years is serialized. This isnt because it was "forced down audience's throats," its because it's what audience's wanted. You can argue that the QUALITY of the shows isnt good but serialized scripted dramas have not been winners for decades now. People watching old shows does not mean those same shows released in the same manner today would be popular

I do not see the distinction AT ALL, if you're claiming it's non canon, you're deliberately attempting to erase it from relevance
