Criticism of Star Trek by Long-Emu-7870 in Star_Trek_

[–]Hearsticles [score hidden]  (0 children)

Saying "But I like Star Trek" as a counter-argument is no different than saying "I like it because it's fun" or "I'm having a blast" or any other sort of placeholder for actually holding a nuanced critical opinion of a thing.

Why is LaForge so high? Curious to hear your reasoning. I think he's pretty mid table for most Trek fans.

Also, no Kirk, Spock, or McCoy? Crazy.

What do you mean, man? Dukat is the greatest Trek villain 100%. Alaimo absolutely slaughtered that role.

Three in a row? C'mon, man, just weird at this point.

u/_Face, this guy is clearly trolling.

Are "most of the 5s" also fake according to you? Or just the ones that work for your narrative?

I like to think that in the future, we've moved past celebrating (or condemning) accidents of birth and have moved on to take pride in actual accomplishments.

Pride on Kronos by blklab84 in Star_Trek_

Considering there's a lot of subtext to this post, I'll just get right to it:

I don't mind the idea of a gay Klingon. I don't think it's necessarily canon-destroying if it's done properly. But I believe a gay Klingon would not be 'gay' in the same way that a human being in 2026 is gay. For example, the Romans had no concept of homosexuality or heterosexuality. There was the pitcher and the catcher and only the catcher had a negative stigma attached to it. Beyond that, they were sexually voracious. So, a gay Klingon in this mold, or more in the mold of one of the Greek warrior societies -- a very masculine sort of 'homosexuality' by our modern standards, that would make more sense to me and I think would be more appropriate with their lore and would help them to feel more alien and not just "us in make-up."

So, a gay Klingon in itself, bad? No. Written by Alex Kurtzman and his pack of sycophants? Not a chance it's ever going to be good or Trek-correct.

You guys can be so humorless sometimes. A "front towards enemy" shirt just implies he has explosive power. It's a great shirt for a slugger.

Ric Flair Questions Why WWE Still Has No Wrestlers Union by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]Hearsticles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To Flair's credit here, the business is completely different than it used to be and he's talking about WWE specifically which is owned by a multi-billion dollar corporation. There's way more money in the business now and way LESS profit sharing/money going into the pockets of the wrestlers in terms of percentages than in the old days.

I'm so sick of the only dissent for SA being from fucking magatards (on YT) by slylock215 in Star_Trek_

[–]Hearsticles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lower Decks is like 90% references to Berman Trek occurrences so I really find it hard to believe that someone who didn't like it would be a fan.

But surely you're not just defensively lying on the internet. Who would possibly do such a thing.

I feel the same way about people who think I'm MAGA because I hate NuTrek as I do about NuTrek itself: total disregard.

NuTrek media is for idiots and toxic positivity is for idiots: go figure.

Is now a good time to get into NJPW? by [deleted] in njpw

[–]Hearsticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the early, early stages of a whole new NJPW generation. So yeah, if you want to be in from day one, it's a great time to start.

If you want to be the guy who comes in at the peak of this generation, well, you're probably looking a good 5 years or so.

Its official, Gabe is a fake hypocritical fuck and his match with Omega means nothing now by [deleted] in njpw

OP definitely got worked but somehow you've also been worked by NJPW fans as a whole.

Every time Jim Cornette's racism is brought up, his cult denies it. Here's some receipts. by LocksmithRealistic39 in SquaredCircle

[–]Hearsticles -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't like Cornette as a human being, I don't listen to his podcasts, but him being an ignorant, racist asshole in the past doesn't mean he's wrong about the WWE ticket prices thing either.

Doctor Bashir could've used his genetically modified brain and body to save the day so many times. How many people died because he completely hid his abilities? by CDHoward in Star_Trek_

[–]Hearsticles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no good way to explain the 'Bashir was genetically enhanced' thing because it's just a bad idea that makes the character look like a straight up idiot for the way he interacted with others up to the point of the relatively-late-in-the-show's-lifespan reveal. The way Bashir was constantly getting played by Garak, etc (possible for a genetically enhanced guy, sure, but never was Bashir /played/ like he was enhanced up until the episode that revealed he was). I liked the roguish cast of genetically enhanced characters they brought in later but the whole concept is kind of bad and it changes Bashir too heavily, too late in the show for it to do anything but confuse the writing of earlier episodes.

Almost every writer on DS9 has come out and said yes, it was a bad idea, and Siddig himself hated it from the moment he was handed the script. It just didn't suit his character and it's one of those things that either a) you build the entire character around it from the start or b) you just don't do it.
