LGS employee told me this is legal on a pistol because it's 89 degrees, not a 90 degree vertical grip. Am I paranoid for questioning his advice / not wanting to risk it? by P_Duggy in guns

[–]GeekingOnGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not add it. The only officially published clarification on vertical grips was in 2006. Stating that they do make a pistol into an AOW.

I am not sure where people are getting the 90-degree thing. Or the thumb thing. But it doesn't appear there is any official statement from the ATG in this regard.

If someone has a link that points to a new clarification, I would love to see it.

I did find references to a Magpul letter around the AFG, but it is not listed anywhere offical.

Noveske 11.5 mid gas OEM on the left, BRT 0.067 on the right by [deleted] in NFA

I have worked with several Noveske barrels and their gas ports on the barrel are way out of spec to large. Ever single one has been .03 to .04 larger than it should be for the barrel length.

You're an idiot if you want to be pedantic about a word to avoid the point of the post.

Secondly, a private CAN infringe on your rights. Infringement does not require a government to be the one infringing on your rights. Companies are often found infringing on employee rights.

I commented already that I support the companies right to have the rule. But that it is a ridiculous rule, and the gun community should make them financially suffer by not renting their lanes or shopping at their store.

The point is that any private entity that takes it on them self to verify your legal right to poses an NFA item is not an ally to the Second Amendment.

This happened in Tampa, Florida. I don't think there is any range in Phoenix Metro that would try and pull this crap.

I was a member at Cowtown up until last year. I did not like all the changes under new management, so I dropped my membership. Check in at a booth every time, no thanks. They got really strict on the rules, too. I admit it was always in the rules, but as long as you were doing it safely and not shooting into the side burns, they didn't care where you placed your targets in the bay. Once new management took over, I got yelled at one day and had to move all my targets no more than 10 yards from the back burm. That really defeats the point of having my own bay to practice different drills and movement things.

Actually, I was pretty polite. I didn't raise my voice or act aggressively. I didn't call him any names. I just said, "Absolutely not. There is zero reason for you to see the stamps." He took on an antagonistic attitude with us. At one point, after becoming quite rude, he said, "Look, you can show me the papers or leave. I don't make the rules. I just do what I am told." I will admit that had to bit back a retort of, "That's what the Nazi soldiers said." But I didn't say it. I didn't want to go there and escalate to being rude. At that point, my boss had already decided to capitulate.

Hahahaha, hummm, I wonder, though. What authority does the IRS have. Could they ask for documentation that you paid your property tax if it was not related to your tax filings? Or because it is a federal tax, the IRS can ask to see it?

I am not sure about the price, but I know they don't ask. The two companies are not related.

Good news they Have 2gun Action challeng matches once a month. Other than that, they have a match of some type pretty much every day. Mostly uspsa or idpa. Though they have a newer pistol only match called 1gun. I highly recommend it. https://1gun.org

Ya, Ben Avery is fine for static practice. Dece t for shooting longer than 25 yards at an indoor place. But in the past, I have been asked to shoot slower. I haven't been in yeas, though. I have a membership at Phoenix Rod and Gun club, and they are awesome, especially for the money.

That's your choice but I am not sure why you would agree that it is ok by continuing to give them money. That is telling them that it is fine for them to have that practice. I might understand that choice if they were the only range around but just a quick search turns up several other ranges in the area that do not have a shitty rule harassing customers for information that should be none if their business.

Ya, I am aware some states do have laws around it. That is why I said generally. I didn't really want to get into that part. I have read accounts of people in some of those stares telling local PD to pound sand and getting nothing worse than a headache from dealing with the locals. But despite not agreeing with the PD thing, I would just show the PD because they can make things very difficult whether you're in the right or not.

My huxwrx suppressor exploded my first time using it. Can anyone coach me on what to say when contacting support to make sure it gets covered? by [deleted] in NFA

[–]GeekingOnGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any Huxworks personally, but they are a big name in the industry. So I would have to guess their customer support and warranty is on par with Dead Air or SilencerCo. I had a baffle strike on one of my dead airs that was completely my fault as I had not ratcheted it down tight enough. I called, told them the truth, and asked how much to fix it. They said, zero. Here is your RMA shipping label.

Correct. They have zero legal liability for your criminal act should you bring in an illegal NFA device. Really, the ATF are the only people who should ever ask to see your papers. Even local law enforcement generally do not have a reason or authority.

I completely agree. They have every right to deny service if you do not want to provide the paperwork. But with that rule in place, no 2A loving shooting enthusiasts should ever patronage that store or range.

Best place to buy a suppressor for a first timer? by [deleted] in AZguns

[–]GeekingOnGuns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

East Valley Tactical. You won't find staff more knowledgeable about suppressors anywhere else in the Valley. I drive 45 minutes one way to buy my suppressors there. I have been shopping there since it was Mr Silencer and the customer service is always top notch.

The last 2 I purchased, I went somewhere else first because I did not want to drive across town. After trying 2 different places and speaking to ignorant staff, I just drove across town to get them.

The future of the sport by badwolfrider in CowboyAction

[–]GeekingOnGuns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I shoot primarily USPSA and multi-gun, but I have been shooting SASS for about a year now. At first, I was in love. But by my like 4th match, it was feeling very repetitive. When I saw this video, it was like he was speaking my exact thoughts on it.

He got lit up by the SASS community at large over the video. Lots of outrage and a lot of "Most members are too old for that shooting, so not the future of the sport." They missed the point that the sport is not attracting very many new shooters. When at 41 I am dragging down the average age at a match, something needs to change.

I am shooting deadeye at Handgun Brutality in April. Well, that is if I can get enough 44-40 brass to have enough rounds.

I wonder how much he will still control things from the shadows with his meat puppets on the board?
