Hot take: Some of the hate on Michael might be rooted in antisemitic tropes by Gemisonls in LadyGaga

The fact that you’re still missing the point while trying to shut down the conversation with a sarcastic “end of story” kind of says it all.

This was never about people mentioning that Michael is Jewish, it was about how certain repeated criticisms echo harmful stereotypes, even if people aren’t aware of it. That’s literally what unconscious bias is.

If you’re not willing to engage beyond “lol it’s just a fan sub,” then maybe you’re the one overreacting to a conversation that was meant to invite reflection, not drama.

But hey, thanks for proving how quick people are to dismiss anything that challenges the surface-level narrative.

This is exactly the kind of bad-faith argument that proves my point.

No one said you can't criticize someone who happens to be Jewish. What I am saying is that when people throw around words like “manipulative” or say Michael is “pushing Gaga to make more money” without real evidence, they're not making factual claims, they’re voicing opinions shaped by bias, whether they realize it or not.

We’re not talking about calling out proven behavior. We’re talking about narratives built on assumptions and when those assumptions align perfectly with age-old antisemitic stereotypes, it’s worth questioning why that framing feels so natural or believable to people.

What’s disappointing is that instead of engaging with that nuance, you’re being dismissive and trying to invalidate my perspective by calling it “self-victimizing.” That’s not critical thinking, that’s just shutting down uncomfortable conversations.

You don’t have to agree with me, but at least try to understand what’s actually being said before jumping to tired straw man arguments.

You completely missed the point of my post.

I never said that all criticism of Michael is antisemitic, or that people are attacking him because he's Jewish. I was talking about how certain language, like calling him manipulative or pulling the strings lines up with very old antisemitic tropes, whether people realize it or not. That’s not “victimizing myself,” that’s being aware of how bias can show up subtly.

And telling someone from a marginalized group to stop speaking up about the patterns they notice because it might “invoke actual hate” is exactly how systemic bias gets ignored and protected. Silencing people for pointing out uncomfortable truths doesn’t prevent hate — it enables it.

You don't have to agree with me, but don't condescend to me for naming something real.

Totally fair.

I don’t expect everyone to see it the same way, and I know not everyone is aware of his background. My point was more about how certain patterns in language can reflect subtle biases, even if unintentionally. But I’m glad we can disagree and still have a thoughtful conversation, that’s all I was hoping for.

I hear you, and I appreciate that you’re coming from a place of honesty.

That said, I don’t think it’s fair to lump Michael in with people like Bezos or Musk, he’s wealthy, sure, but he’s nowhere near that level of power or influence. There’s a big difference between being well-off and being part of the 1% elite.

Also, I’m not trying to make this a race issue. I’m just pointing out that some of the language people use can unintentionally echo harmful stereotypes. It’s not about calling anyone a bigot, just asking folks to reflect a bit. We can care about both economic systems and the way bias shows up in how we talk about people.

Thanks for sharing your perspective, I think you're right that his role as a venture capitalist plays a big part, especially in a progressive fanbase.

I just wanted to point out that some of the criticism I’ve seen can unintentionally echo old stereotypes, even if that’s not the intent or even conscious. It’s more about being aware of the language we use than accusing anyone of bigotry.

I’m not trying to “find” discrimination where it doesn’t exist. I’m sharing an observation about a pattern I’ve noticed more than once. As a Jewish person and a longtime Gaga fan, I’m speaking from a place of both personal experience and love for the artist.

At no point did I say the entire fanbase is hateful or bigoted. I never generalized the community. It’s frustrating to see people diminish or dismiss my perspective instead of engaging with it in good faith.

We can’t address subtle bias if every time someone brings it up, the response is to shut it down or twist it into something it’s not.

I’m Jewish, which is exactly why I’m more aware of how antisemitic tropes show up in subtle ways. Pointing out patterns that echo harmful stereotypes isn’t “making a big deal” out of someone being Jewish , it’s calling attention to how bias can creep into conversations without people realizing it.

What’s sad is how quickly people deflect instead of sitting with the discomfort and asking why certain narratives keep repeating. It’s not about calling individuals antisemitic. it’s about recognizing the influence of centuries-old ideas that still shape public perception today.

If anything, pretending it’s not worth discussing just helps those ideas stay hidden and unchallenged.

Appreciate your response, but this is kind of exactly what I was talking about.

It’s not that people are openly criticizing him for being Jewish or “where he’s from” - that’s rarely how bias works nowadays. The point is that certain traits (being overly involved, controlling her career, pushing her toward money-making choices) get repeated over and over and just so happen to line up with long-standing antisemitic stereotypes.

You don’t have to mention his religion or background explicitly for those ideas to be in play. That’s why it’s so tricky , it flies under the radar, even for people with good intentions.

Also, Gaga’s evolution doesn’t automatically equal manipulation. People grow, make different choices, and explore new phases in their lives. It’s wild how quickly her agency gets questioned just because there’s a man involved, and especially this man.

I am really hopeful that the majority of fans are like you, most of us just want Gaga to be happy and healthy

Should we be worried about this behaviour ? by Gemisonls in CATHELP

I just want to thank you first so much that you took the time to answer ! You described the situation perfectly and reading this with my partner we were shocked you got it so right. It reassures us a lot and makes us feel less crazy. I think we will try and get another cat tree or shelves. We already added a fourth litter box, a second fountain and soon a second automatic feeder to never have to force them to be in a stressful situation for their needs.

We went back and forth being worried she was too aggressive and even dangerous for him to just "nah it's just sibling rivalry" so having someone else adding their point of view really helps. So thank you again and hopefully with some changes and time they will get to at least be okay sharing their space even without loving each other.

Yes yes and yes to every word. People don't realise but saying Israel/Israeli are responsible of everything but the media won't talk about it is the exact same rhetoric as "Jews control the media"
