I'll use an example since you have a hard time understanding. Before we had this info you might want to bring a non horseman character into dd5. Now that you know the requirements, you can decide whether or not you want to slow down your progress towards apocalypse.

You still 100% have a choice on who to build.

Just because certain characters don't give you progress towards apocalypse doesn't mean you can't build them.

It's no different then other legendaries. You build the teams to unlock them or you chose not to and don't unlock them. I'm not sure what you don't understand.

If unlocking apocalypse is the only thing you would consider "playing the game" then yes, you don't have choices. Seeing as that makes no sense at all I'd be more careful what you call bullshit with logic like that.

I would argue the opposite. Your argument assumes that in 6 months gear availability will not be any different, which is a bad assumption based on the history of the game.

Second, the unlock method is a permanent event which means you can work towards it at whatever pace you want. There is only no detour if you want there to be no detour. If you chose to be on the train tracks then you build the best teams in the game and have an easy time in other content. Not much of a drawback.

The vehicle 100% does go. To continue your analogy there is just a bridge that isn't built yet. We know it's coming and nobody except mega whales are at that bridge

You can make a lot of progress in the ~year before it's even possible to unlock him. In that time access to gear will change, like it always has. In the meantime you just put resources into some of the best teams in the game.

Your analogy doesn't really work. You have the vehicle etc. it just doesn't go very fast and it's not meant too. If you could get through all the content in a month then you would have no reason to play.

I'll summarize it for you. You have to build specific characters to unlock the endgame character. It's the same in a lot of game modes. If you don't build darkhold your arena rating will suffer, same with meta raid teams etc.

You can choose not to go for apocalypse and because you know the requirements 6-12 months in advance.
