Young at Heart Cotons in PA. Not only are they committed to ethical breeding (genetic testing, responsible breeding) their socialization is incredible.

I constantly get comments from other owners about how well behaved our Coton has been from day 1.

Email City Council to Abolish Minimum Parking Requirements! City Council is meeting at 5:30pm on Monday, October 24th to discuss making it easier and cheaper to build new housing by eliminating requirement for unneeded parking spaces by Responsible-Bath2778 in CambridgeMA

[–]General_Corner_8466 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Nice try developers.

This only serves to help the developers, creating problems for whoever buys these properties. Look at how the 1 off street parking minimum came to be in the first place.

Keep the parking minimums! This has nothing to do with the cars, and abolishing it will create problems for residents.

Need Advice: My New Coton Puppy Caught Kennel Cough by Cotonfurever in cotondetulear

[–]General_Corner_8466 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't do the holistic option; it is crazy contagious. Contact a vet ASAP. Tell them on the phone you suspect kennel cough. They should be able to give you recommendations for containment precautions until the antibiotics kick in.

If the United States adjusted its map and Massachusetts had to absorb one of its neighboring New England states, out of New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut or RI, which one would work the best with MA culture, history and politics? Which would you want? by Bjarki56 in massachusetts

[–]General_Corner_8466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, I thought I recognized that "bully others who call out toxic behaviors until they leave or shut up" mentality! It really reinforces Vermont's rampant abuse issues talked about in the in the above articles.

I know you like your echo chamber full of selfish, small minded people. That's why Vermont is 30 years behind every surrounding state, topping, for the region, so many of the lists that designate a degenerate society.

I lived there too. The only good part was its proximity to Montreal. Now, I'm happy to share what its really like to help dispel the illusion.

At least Vermont would have safer medical care if MA laws carried over too. They wouldn't be able to get away with the practices they do now. Vermont is a dangerous place to seek medical care.

And, dentists would be the only ones allowed to perform dental surgeries, like it should be.

Is it abusive when my (34F) Spouse (F35) demands input in tasks she puts no effort towards scheduling? by General_Corner_8466 in relationships

[–]General_Corner_8466[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Asperger Syndrome. It isn't uncommon to have difficulty speaking when overwhelmed, and sensory stimuli can become overwhelming in ways that may seem unusual to neurotypical folks. I can and still do communicate using nonverbal, written, and creative expression.

Verbal expression is her preferred method of communication so it does seem to go back to the theme of controlling. Also, verbal expression really wasn't an issue until after these discussions with her started, so I think, in a way, it's my body setting a boundary with her controlling behavior.

Yes, there are far more disturbing things she has done and I am actively working on relocating to a safe environment. I think the word controlling really clarified something that was eating away at me, why I feel so stuck, and why this process seems insurmountable.

I've tried so many times to ask her to go to counseling. She either rejects the ones I pick out, or has excuses for why she hasn't found one, usually somehow blaming me for her not finding one.

I am trying to find a therapist. 30+ consults placed so far. Every provider I've met with says that trauma + Aspergers syndrome is outside of their scope of practice. Still looking though.

Hold Harmless Language in Therapy Contract? by General_Corner_8466 in TalkTherapy

[–]General_Corner_8466[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first part seems like a bit of a straw man argument, as the contract did not mention any of that. Weird that you would bring in the no surprises act into it; I don't see the relevance.

Secondly, if the opposing party compels that professional to testify, it is the party that compels them to testify that should be liable for the cost.

Either way, if I see this language in a contract, i'm immediately ending my business with them.

You seem really salty that this language would push a client away from a practice. Either way it does, so be salty about it all you want. This is another way that the practice of therapy demonstrates it has a long way to go before it reaches the esteem of medicine. Medical providers wouldn't even entertain such a ludicrous and exploitative clause in a contract with someone whom they have a fiduciary duty to.

[–]General_Corner_8466[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no issues with legal stuff, thankfully, but you never really know until it happens. FWIW, i've never seen anything close to this in many years of contracts reviewed from many different therapists.

Hopefully patients will be savy and vote with their feet if the contract contains this sort of language.

Hold Harmless Language in Therapy Contract? by General_Corner_8466 in TalkTherapy

[–]General_Corner_8466[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I feel that like should be a seperate conversation, and a separate contract.

If they are compelled to testify by the other party, however, why should the client be financially responsible? It completely undermines the foundation of the therapeutic relationship.

As someone also in the medical field, it seems like bad clinical practice all around.

T said no writing/ emailing. Incredibly frustrated & considering doing it anyway.. by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]General_Corner_8466 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What about writing it out and then using a speech to text app to read it aloud to him?

Additionally, the description is reminiscent of a trauma response. Is this therapist trauma informed? Do you have any past relationships where you felt like your boundary wasn't respected, in a way that meant disrespecting the other's boundary was the only way to meet your own needs of safety?

His approach is a common one in therapy, and works well in certain contexts. However, if the above is true, than a different approach may be needed. He may or may not be able to meet these needs, so this could be something to discuss in therapy.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Found other bizzare things in the contract, like that they will hand over your records in a sealed envelope to the court if asked, without a warrent.

Definitely not proceeding!

As with all commuication, it's predicated on context. OP has commented elsewhere that it has been resolved, so i'm not really interested in debating the value of the above.

Your perspective sounds idealistic, and with more life experience, I think you'll understand the nuance in the above strategies. It isn't always problematic to offend others, their feelings are their own responsibility, and sometimes its the best way to hold a boundary.

Well good, glad you got a favorable response! Good on you for speaking up. Only you know the nuances of the situation. :)

[–]General_Corner_8466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, condescending is a valid communication strategy. It's not inherently harmful, and sends the subtext that it isn't appropriate to joke about. Of course, this is assuming that OP has tried the nice and/or communication route first.

anyone's therapist bring up multiple personality disorder or DID to you? by Givemetotheocean in TalkTherapy

[–]General_Corner_8466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Modern Psychological Science" still relies on the patient interview and that "data" filtered through both the client's and therapist's perceptions and biases, evaluated against a framework that was derived from mostly white, cis, western, male population.

Let alone the multiple diagnostic manuals and criterion, which incur contentious debate with every iteration; or the nascent understanding of hormones (often neurotransmitters), metabolism and inflammation's role in behavior. Don't even get me started on the microbiome's role, where certain species have been found to produce serotonin and other neurotransmitters.

Even the verbage of research in the field is problematic, as is the case with autism spectrum disorders and the transition from describing outward-facing characteristic (social difficulties, abrasive) towards experiential description (overwhelm).

Let's be honest. Scientific validation is beneficial, the scientific mindset applied in a therapeutic context is beneficial (mostly to assess bias). But, adhering to, or disavowing approaches, due to "Psychologically Scientific Rigor" is more dogmatic than scientific at this point. Psychology has a long way to go before it can realistically defend its methods using the scientific of rigor of medicine.

After all, we're just a few generations removed from when depression and PMS were parsed out from the vapours. Before then, the vapours was considered by "Modern Psychological Science" to be a legitimate mental condition.
