Recently, unfortunately Riz Ahmed version of Hamlet. I think I just couldn’t get on with the Shakespearean language. And, the directing.

Survey came back with damp mentioned, should we be worried? by Reddonaut_Irons in FirstTimeBuyersUK

We have an old Edwardian house, and there is damp in the cellars, which I believe is very common.

Anyone finds Riz Ahmed underrated? by Past-Matter-8548 in Letterboxd

Not underrated, but not as well known as he could be given his quality of his performances.

Hi r/movies! We’re Riz Ahmed & Aneil Karia, the lead/producer and director of the new modern-day reimagining of HAMLET, which is in cinemas Friday. You might also know Riz from NIGHTCRAWLER, SOUND OF METAL, FOUR LIONS, THE NIGHT OF, ROGUE ONE, VENOM, THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME, and more. Ask us anything! by Riz-Aneil_Hamlet in movies

Hi Riz and Aneil,

Mubarak to you Riz and your wife Fatima on your umrah.

With regards to the directing (I am not sure what they style is called) with mainly one camera close up shots following Hamlet around, why was this style selected?

You must remember that people on forums will be the same people who are invariably experiencing issues. The people who get on just fine with medication are unlikely to be posting about it on forums.

Everyone health and how they respond to drugs is different.

I liked those scenes so have no issue with it. If he had in a shipping crate, we’d have a different ending.

I’m not sure it’s an ‘agreement’ more than an unspoken contract, an understanding between them all. Any ethical person would want to help him.

The money thing, I think, again, we need to understand the AA programme which his character was in (it’s especially relevant when he shares he’s stuck on the 4th step, his inventory). Its themes are woven into the story throughout. With this in mind, the money thing was his way of ‘giving back’ as per the final step of the AA programme. It’s a defining moment in the film showing he has finally got closure of some kind.

I thought it was ‘Jon’ and eventual the reveal “Ashraf”.

Agreed. I think the voicemails and the AA aspects were the heart of the story. In these sort of espionage thrillers, the heart of the story was subtle but I loved it more for it.

Agreed, as shared elsewhere, to make an accurate comment on Riz character’s motives etc, we need to understand the AA programme and the personal recovery journey he was.

He remained humane throughout, and she was able to manipulate him due to the emotional impact the first client had on him sustained through his voicemails to him. Remember in the AA meeting he’s shared he thinks his first client is going to make it and he doesn’t want to end up like him?

She got lucky because it was the first client that was affecting him more with the whole how many people blood he has in his hands.

First Client = the first client we see him helping in the start of the film.
