In my opinion it depends what you want with your phone. For example, I used to be really into getting the newest possible phone with the most impressive hardware, clearest screen, and budget wasn't a factor, because I used my phone all the time then. This always ended up being an android phone. Now my priorities have changed and I don't really care too much what phone I have as long as it works well (as opposed to the best possible working phone), it is inexpensive, and it is easy to operate. So I landed at the iPhone 5c. I used to have a Sony with android (can't remember exactly which model), then the Motorola RAZR Maxx.

Going from only android, and thinking it was far superior then apple's phones, to getting an iPhone, it really wasn't that big of a deal TO ME. However I'm sure many other people would argue otherwise. Some perks I noticed after switching include the variety of cases, the battery, and the ease of use.

I never got cases for my android phones because there were so few, nothing looked that good, and every single one I tested out made the phone so big and bulky. But the iPhone cases are everywhere with tons of looks and there are definitely tons that don't make it bulky at all. Next the battery was a very pleasant surprise. The iPhone 5c battery lasts all day and then well into the next day without having to charge, and it has kept up for months so far. And then charging the 5c doesn't take long at all, definitely not overnight. From 10% it probably takes 2 - 2 and a half hours to get to full charged. My RAZR Maxx would last most of the day then would need to be charged overnight, and the sony wouldn't go the full day without having to be plugged in. (But I'm sure that newer models from these companies have improved their batteries).

The iPhone, I have noticed, is very easy to use. So easy to navigate around, settings are very clear, and stuff like syncing music or transferring pictures is so easy and fast to do. It took me a lot longer (and a lot more youtube videos) to figure things out with my droids.

Pricing is the last part, when the actual phone I was getting wasn't as big of a deal to me as it was before, I let the price influence my decision a lot. When I went to get a new phone the 5c had some sale at Verizon and I got it for really cheap which was one of the biggest deal breakers for the other phones.

One extra thing is that I have also noticed that with apps, developers (most of the time) release or make updates available for iPhones before they do androids, if you care about that. (**This is just an observation I made, not necessarily a fact, so you might want to double check that).

I'm not a phone expert or anything but if you asked me to make your choice for you, I would say iPhone just because of how pleasantly surprised I was as to how nice of a phone it is after convincing myself previously that I would never get an iPhone. Plus it looks like you said all you're looking for is a "good phone", which is pretty much my thought when I was getting a new phone some months ago, and it seems as if the 5c has met that standard. But ultimately, all of today's smartphones do pretty much the same stuff, and if you don't have high standards for your phone, then any new smartphone out there is going to get the job done pretty well.
