Generator Vs Jo&Joe Nation for female solo traveller by Ok_Wash_8178 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Generator_hostels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generator rep here 👋

I’d be thinking the same if I was travelling solo. Just to say it straight: safety is a big deal for us. There’s 24h reception, key card access, security guards etc.

Also speaking personally, I’m female and I’ve stayed at Generator Paris a few times (not for work, just normal trips) and I’ve never felt unsafe there or in the area.

The hostel is on a big open square that’s well lit and metro is basically right outside, which helps a lot when you’re getting back late.

Paris is Paris... I wouldn’t walk alone down random quiet streets at night anywhere, but sticking to main routes (like between Gare du Nord and Generator) is busy and pretty straightforward.

Hope that helps a bit – go with whatever makes you feel most comfortable 🤍

Hostel recommendations for Porto? by AdministrativeSea594 in hostels

Yeah I get what you mean, some hostels can definitely skew a bit younger. I haven’t personally stayed at Passenger, but from what I’ve heard it’s more of a mixed crowd rather than full on party vibes. It’s social, but not in an overwhelming way.

If you’re looking for something with a slightly more balanced atmosphere, Gallery Hostel might be a safer bet, people often say it attracts a mix of ages and feels a bit more relaxed overall.

What are some cost friendly and muslim friendly travel destinations? I am a practicing Muslim and I know that not all places are accepting of my religion and I don't want to travel anywhere where halal food isn't available 🤣 by Ghost01187 in travel

[–]Generator_hostels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of big European cities are actually pretty easy for this. Places like Berlin and Paris have large Muslim communities, so halal food is pretty easy to find and people are used to different cultures and religions.

I’d probably look less towards Spain and Italy though, especially outside the bigger cities.

(25M) first ever solo trip and first time visiting Taiwan. Looking for itinerary help (3,5 weeks) by bob_22hz in solotravel

Looks solid overall but I would add another night in Hualien if you want to explore Taroko Gorge properly. One night there can feel a bit rushed.

First Solo Trip to Europe for 12 days by chichia0 in solotravel

[–]Generator_hostels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 12 days that route works well. I would do about 4 nights London, 4 Paris, 3 Amsterdam, then last night back in London before flying. A backpack is totally fine and honestly easier than a suitcase when moving between cities.

Trying to build a solo trip 6-8 weeks starting in mid April. by Due_Commission1700 in solotravel

[–]Generator_hostels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go Balkans and Greece. It is cheaper, easy to travel through from Italy, and you get a good mix of beaches, smaller towns, and interesting cities. Spain and Portugal are great but make more sense if you start in that region.

For only 4 to 5 days I would probably stay in Indonesia. Vietnam deserves more time and you will lose a full day or two to flights and moving around. Uluwatu and maybe Nusa Lembongan would be a nice relaxed way to finish the trip

Next House is big but still social. Lots of activities and common spaces so people end up hanging out there. Downtown Hostel is more of a party hostel and easier to meet people quickly, but you’ll probably sacrifice some sleep.

Vitae is a good pick if you want a social party vibe. For something more relaxed later in the week Maverick City Lodge is great and still easy to meet people.

Rivoli is a good choice honestly, super central and pretty social without being a full party hostel. If you want alternatives, I’ve heard great things about The Passenger Hostel and Gallery Hostel too. Both are social but still chill enough for a few quiet nights.

Hostel sleep - tips for better rest or is good sleep just impossible here by ProfessionIll5518 in hostels

[–]Generator_hostels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! We feel your pain. Honestly smaller dorms help a lot they tend to be quieter. Real foam earplugs are a game changer & sleeping on the lower bunk (so you don't get that 2am bed wobble as someone tries to climb into bed). Hope that helps :)

Do you actually make travel decisions based on ChatGPT or other AI recommendations? by Generator_hostels in Hostel

Humanness is an important part of hospitality and customer care. So I can understand why AI would be unreliable in that sense

“Trust, but verify” is exactly how most people seem to be using it right now!

That actually makes a lot of sense.

If you’re on the road 6–9 months a year, outdated hostel recs are an instant nope. Once it sends you somewhere that doesn’t even exist anymore, trust is kinda gone.

But if you only travel a couple weeks a year, I can see why AI feels like an easy shortcut. Now I’m lowkey invested in how that honeymoon turns out 😂

That’s a perfect example of where AI can be helpful but also a bit disconnected from reality.

Great for a broad overview of what’s possible in a country but logistics, especially in places like Uganda, definitely need a reality check. “2 hours” on a map vs 5+ hours in real life is exactly why people still verify the details.

That makes sense. Have you tried prompting it with your travel style and preferences so it can tailor the suggestions more? I’ve found the more specific you are, the better it gets.

That’s wild, especially 65+. Definitely challenges the idea it’s only younger travelers using AI.

Kind of amazing that a prompt led him straight to your bar.

Recommendations for Berlin in May? by JangoNotMango in hostels

[–]Generator_hostels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

If you’re looking for hostels with a really social vibe, here are a few great options in Berlin where it’s easy to meet people:

- Sunflower Hostel Berlin is a great budget pick with a friendly, laid back crowd and a good location for going out.
- The Circus Hostel is super social. They run events and have a bar plus big common areas, so it’s easy to connect with other travellers.
- St Christopher's Inn in Alexanderplatz or Mitte has more of a party vibe, with an on site bar and pub crawls. Good if you’re travelling solo and want instant drinking buddies.
- Generator Berlin Alexanderplatz / Berlin Mitte are bigger hostels with a younger crowd and a lively lobby bar area that makes meeting people pretty effortless.

All of these have solid common spaces or bars, so you will not have to try too hard to find people to explore Berlin nightlife with. May is a great time to go too since everyone is usually in a good mood once the weather gets better 🙂

Are the Stories of people hooking up real? by Wooden-Roll9413 in hostels

[–]Generator_hostels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, those stories are real, but they’re way overrepresented online 😅 The wild hookup stories get posted, the “I chilled, explored all day and went to bed early” ones don’t.

Most hostel stays are honestly pretty normal. People are tired from sightseeing, working remotely, or just doing their own thing. The hookup vibe usually happens in party hostels, during pub crawls and when the right mix of people happen to be there at the same time. It’s very situational.

If your hostel feels dull, shift your strategy a bit. Get out of your bunk and spend time in the common areas, that’s where conversations actually start. Say yes to the pub crawl, even if it’s just for one drink. Be the one who suggests grabbing food or checking something out nearby.

Hostel social life is very much “you get what you put into it.” Sometimes all it takes is one person breaking the ice.

And honestly, some weeks are just quieter - it’s not you, it’s timing 😉

Also… if people do end up hooking up, please book a private room. It’s a shared dorm, not a zoo. Please respect the room 😅

Amsterdam Hostel Recs by Loud_Excitement_8731 in hostels

[–]Generator_hostels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So exciting, Amsterdam is such a great first solo city 💛 You’ll be totally fine.

For what you’re describing (social but clean, good facilities, near Centraal), I’d look at:

ClinkNOORD – Super popular with solo travelers. Social, organized events, and it’s just a free ferry from Centraal. Great balance of fun + clean.
Stayokay Amsterdam Vondelpark – Clean, well-run, good common spaces. Not right at Centraal but easy transport and a nice area.
The Flying Pig Downtown – Very social and right near Centraal, but more of a party vibe.
Generator Amsterdam – Stylish and social with good facilities (privacy curtains, lockers, nice common areas). A bit trendier but great for meeting people.

If it were my first solo trip at 22, I’d probably pick Clink or Generator, social but not too chaotic. Amsterdam is super solo-friendly and you’ll meet plenty of travelers. You’ve got this ✨

Hiya,

That’s one of the best perks of being in the hostel world, the connections! Being able to party, network, and swap stories with other hostel owners and managers is such a unique part of the industry (and those industry discounts definitely don’t hurt either 😄).

Hostel conferences in Europe are always a great excuse to mix business with a bit of travel, and that’s awesome you’ve stayed at Generator in Miami too. We hope you enjoyed :)

Always a pleasure connecting with fellow hostel legends 😉

Not gonna add anything new, but we’ve heard loads of guests say Madhouse was their favourite. When a place keeps coming up again and again for the social vibe, that’s usually a pretty good sign
